But here’s a special connection that makes this even more meaningful…

While Shandy was finishing up her own schooling, she was helping Wendy deliver baby #3. During that time, she encouraged Wendy to consider Graceland University for her NP journey. That conversation became the driving force behind Wendy pursuing her Nurse Practitioner degree.

We have some incredible people to celebrate! 💙🔬

Please join us in giving a BIG, warm welcome to Edilberto (Bert), Giann, and Cherry (who works nights!) from the Philippines, who are serving our hospital in the laboratory.

These three are truly some of the smartest people to ever walk these halls, and just as importantly, some of the kindest. Their dedication, skill, and heart for patient care make a difference every single day.

✨ Bert brings 12 years of hospital laboratory experience from Saudi Arabia.
✨ Giann spent the past 8 years working as a lab tech in the Philippines. We are so excited for him as he prepares to marry his high school sweetheart this November back home!
✨ Cherry, our night shift hero, plays a vital role behind the scenes and keeps things running smoothly while most of us are asleep.

When asked what they have loved most about Newman so far, their answer was simple. The kindness of the community and the food. Biscuits and gravy have definitely made the favorites list!

They have traveled far from home to serve our patients and community, and we are incredibly thankful they chose our little hospital. Their expertise strengthens our lab and their hearts strengthen our team.

Newman Memorial Hospital is proud to announce the appointment of Timothy Vavricka, M.D. as its new General Surgeon, alongside a significant expansion of surgical services for communities across Northwest Oklahoma.

This milestone represents far more than the addition of a physician. It marks a pivotal advancement in regional healthcare access and clinical excellence.

Dr. Vavricka is an Oklahoma native and Ada High School graduate whose career reflects an extraordinary commitment to service, leadership, and surgical excellence. He earned his bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from the University of Oklahoma, where he was commissioned as an Ensign in the United States Navy upon acceptance to medical school. He completed his General Surgery residency at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center before serving our nation as a Navy Surgeon.

His distinguished military career includes two combat deployments to the Middle East aboard the USS Enterprise, service as Ship’s Surgeon, and clinical leadership at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, the busiest medical center in the U.S. Navy. He also served as an Assistant Professor of Surgery, training future Navy surgeons before returning home to Oklahoma to care for rural communities.

With Dr. Vavricka’s arrival, Newman Memorial Hospital is expanding access to essential surgical care locally. He will provide a full scope of general surgical services across a wide range of conditions and procedures and will see patients in both Shattuck and Woodward, extending specialized care throughout the region while reducing the need for patients to travel long distances.

“Grounded in data, the expansion of general surgery capabilities across Northwest Oklahoma is not merely strategic, it is essential,” said CEO Tom Vasko. “Dr. Vavricka’s distinguished career represents a remarkable asset to our region. His presence elevates both access and quality, ensuring high caliber surgical care remains local and affordable while advancing clinical standards to a new level. This investment strengthens community health, preserves regional resources, and delivers world class expertise close to home.”

We’re excited to officially launch Advanced Wound Care by Newman, led by Jessica Jones, APRN, and Dr. Mann, MD, bringing specialized, compassionate wound care closer to home for our rural patients.

This new advanced wound care center is another important step in our continued mission to expand specialty care and services locally, so patients don’t have to travel far to receive the expert care they deserve.

Who can benefit from Advanced Wound Care?
This service is especially helpful for patients with:
• Diabetic wounds and ulcers
• Non-healing or chronic wounds
• Surgical wounds
• Pressure injuries
• Other complex or slow-healing wounds

👉 Important to know:
Patients can self-refer. You do not need a referral from another provider to be seen. If you or a loved one is struggling with a wound that isn’t healing, we’re here to help.
