William H. “Bill” Bartels, age 91 of Shawano, passed away Monday evening, March 16, 2026, at Green Tree Health & Rehabilitation Center in Clintonville.
Bill was born on January 2, 1935, in Dunbar, a son of the late William and Gladys (Bruesch) Bartels. He attended school in Dunbar and Pembine which is where he graduated high school. Bill then joined the U.S. Navy where he served for four years. Upon returning from service, he worked at the Veneer Mill and the Goodman Sawmill in Goodman. He then moved to Shawano where he worked for Weber Plywood & Veneer, Phenix Manufacturing Co., and Marion Plywood. Bill enjoyed drawing nature scenes, traveling to new places, and collecting souvenirs.
Survivors include two brothers, Ernest Bartels and Frank Bartels, both of Niagra; one sister, Ethelyn (Alfred) Tewel of Dunbar; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Rhinehart Bartels; and his sister, Margaret Bartels.
A graveside service for William will be held in the spring at the Pembine Cemetery in Pembine, WI. Military honors will be conducted at the cemetery.
