Get those new suns to protect your eyes from the summer rays!

These tips are great not only for students learning virtually but also for adults working at desktops or remotely from home.

Except for rare cases such as epileptics, there is no clear evidence blue blocking lenses prevent eyestrain from electronic displays. I would not recommend running out and buying these for yourself or your children. There has been a clear link found between blue light and sleep disturbances however so avoid screen time 60 minutes before bedtime.

Now here is the really important stuff!

-Ensure workstation ergonomics are optimal. Screen position should be specific to the user and allow them to look slightly down, not up. Avoid large windows or overhead fluorescent lights which can wash out screens and increase glare. Use the 1-2-10 rule for viewing distance: 1 foot for handheld devices, 2 feet for desk displays or laptops, 10 feet for TV screens. To improve clarity, don’t move closer- increase font size.

-Ensure kids are wearing correction appropriate for near working distances. Many children require glasses for viewing blackboards/smartboards but don’t need correction at near. If you are unsure, consult with your child’s optometrist to confirm.

-For every 20 minutes of screen time take a 20 second break and focus at least 20 feet away. Smaller more frequent breaks are preferable to longer breaks every 2-3 hours.

-Take whole body physical breaks after 60 minutes of screen time.

-Prioritize screen time for academics. Free time should be device free and ideally include outdoor play. UV light is critical to children’s healthy eye development.

-Ensure regular eye exams even if no complaints. Headaches, squinting and eyestrain particularly towards the end of the work/school day obviously necessitate an exam. But also remember children are highly adaptable and will continue to work despite symptoms.

Thanks to a Dr. Sanford out of Memphis for this great write up, we couldn’t agree more!

Hello,
First we hope that this message continues finding everyone safe and healthy. Wineinger Eyecare is an essential business and we continue to follow CDC and state guidelines. Starting Monday May 4th we will be seeing and scheduling Eye Examinations for glasses and contact lenses as well as continued follow up care that may have been advised by your doctor.
Until further notice, when you come into the office to see us for any reason the state is asking the following measures be taken:
1. Please wear a mask into the office. If you do not have one, we can provide one for you. It is preferred that patients bring in their own mask that they already have on when entering the office.
2. If you have had any flu like symptoms (chills, cough, aches) in the last 2 weeks, to please postpone your exam at this time.
3. We can only allow 1 additional person in the office with a patient that is being examined. As an example: If a child is being examined, only 1 parent can be in the office with that child. No other siblings or other adults will be allowed. If your entire family has appointments, we will ask that the rest of the family remain in their cars and come in as we're ready for them.
4. We will only be scheduling patients at 30 minute intervals. It is our goal to only have 3-4 patients inside the office at any one time.
5. When you arrive to the office, please call the front desk to tell them you're here. If we're ready for you, they'll instruct you to come in. If we are not ready, they will either call or text (your preference) when we're ready for you.
We want to work with everyone to ease this burden as much as possible. Our staff started back in the office today with our regular business hours listed on our website.
While we did the best we could to keep up with voice mails and messages, we may have missed your call or message. If that is the case please contact us now and we can work to help you with any eyecare needs you have.
We really are looking forward to seeing everyone again, and please continue to stay safe and healthy!
Thank you,
Drs Roger and Ryan Wineinger

Hello,

First we hope that this email finds everyone safe and healthy. Second, while Wineinger Eyecare is an essential business we are following the CDC guidelines by not scheduling routine or annual eye exams. With that being said we are open but with shortened business hours. These hours are to see emergency visits (infections) or any sudden changes in your vision. So if your eyes are bothering you or you have had any sudden changes in your vision (clarity/shadows/flashes of light/floaters) please call us at 913-631-0090. We are monitoring the phone line even outside of regular hours.

Hours;

M,T,W,F 11-1

Thursday and Saturday: Closed

We are also filling contact lens orders and lost or broken glasses. If you need glasses, please call the office for information on how we can help. If you are in need of contact lenses, we can get you samples to get you by for the next month, or we can extend your contact lens prescription by 3 months. Feel free to visit our website to have contact lenses delivered straight to your door. Here is a direct link to our doctor supported online web store for contact lenses: https://yourstore.wewillship.com/?account_id=4351

We hope to be back up and running our regular business as soon as the CDC makes adjustments to their guidelines. We miss seeing everyone and know that we are here to help you as we can!

Thank you,

03/22/2020

We would like to update you on the current state of our operations at Wineinger Eyecare and what we are doing to keep our doctors, staff, and our patients safe during the coronavirus pandemic. We will be conditionally open Monday through Saturday with limited hours and a limited staff. We will continue to see emergency patients as well as surgical follow up care. We will be relying on your judgement of your Eyecare needs. By continuing to see ocular emergencies, we hope to help relieve the burden on local ER and Urgent Care facilities. Please call us if you feel as though you have scratched your eye, are developing an eye infection as well as any and all other ocular emergencies. We are here for you if you’re having any of these issues!

Our goal is to minimize as much contact as possible with others and abide by the social distancing rules. When you arrive, please call our office at 913-631-0090 so we can let you know when to enter the office. Once inside you will be escorted directly to an examination room to do all paperwork and see the doctor so as to minimize any time in the reception area. We are thoroughly wiping down and disinfecting all exam rooms and equipment before and after each patient encounter.

If you have traveled anywhere outside the local area recently or exhibit any symptoms of illness, we would prefer that you reschedule for a later time unless it is an emergency.

At this time, we are still able to order contact lenses and glasses. If you are concerned about coming in for an exam and in need of contact lenses or glasses, we will make exceptions based on each individual need. While we do not anticipate shortages of contact lenses, please review that you do have a back up pair of glasses. We will be following sterilization processes in the optical department when trying on frames.

We also have opened a online store for ordering contacts. Please visit www.eyesofkc.org and select the order contacts button to order and have lenses sent directly to your home.

Please let us know if you have any other questions! We are committed to providing you a safe environment for care if you should need it. Please stay safe and healthy!
