🐾 Pups and Pals at Health Week! 🐾

We would like to say a big thank you to our friends at Shawnee Animal Welfare for bringing the real stars of the day, four adorable pups who were looking for their forever homes. We’re thrilled to share that one of them, sweet Minnie, was adopted! 🎉🐶

We also want to give a big round of applause to:
🎨 Pottawatomie County 4-H –who crafted homemade pet toys
🎥 Jesse Monday Media –for the pet portraits
🐾Pogo - A Blue Zones Certified Community – for planning this event
🥰And all our amazing volunteers for the canvas activity

We wrapped up Health Week with a buzz at BugFest—a fun, hands-on event hosted by the Shawnee Public Library!

Families explored the world of insects, met Beekeeper Rick, and even learned how to cook with honey thanks to Pogo - A Blue Zones Certified Community! 🍯👩‍🍳

It was a sweet way to end a week full of movement, learning, and connection. Big thanks to our Pioneer Library System who made this bug-tastic event possible! 🐛📚 And check them out for other fun programming and events happening this summer!

Friday was packed with action, learning, and tons of FUN at KidSpace Park during our morning and evening Friday Fun Day sessions!

🌞 Morning Highlights
👟 Rolled into the day with the Roll & Stroll Walk
⚡ Showed off speed in the 40-Yard Dash
📚 Got hands-on with STEM and reading activities
🛴 Learned smart moves at the Bike Safety station
🍳 Enjoyed a live Healthy Cooking Demo

🌆 Evening Fun
🎯 A little friendly competition at 9-Square and Free Throw Contests
🐾 Cuddles and fun with Pups & Pals
🍴 Tasted local flavors with Food Trucks from 5–8 PM
👟 Closed out the day with a Family Fun Walk under the stars

Health Week 2025 Highlight: Youth Football Clinics with Shamiel Gary! 🏈😎
Last week, young athletes hit the field at Jim Thorpe Stadium for a high-energy football clinic led by former NFL safety Shamiel Gary!

From footwork to fundamentals, Grades 1–8 got hands-on coaching and life lessons straight from someone who’s played at the highest level.

It wasn’t just about the game—it was about discipline, confidence, and building strong foundations both on and off the field. Huge thanks to Shamiel for pouring into our youth and inspiring the next generation of leaders! 🙌

Special shoutout to Pogo - A Blue Zones Certified Community, Shawnee Public Schools faculty and football players as well as the Shawnee Family YMCA Staff for partnering together for this great event!

🏈 Health Week 2025 Highlight: Avedis Speaker Series 🏈
We huddled up last week for an incredible Avedis Speaker Series Luncheon featuring Shamiel Gary, former NFL safety and hometown inspiration! 🏈🙌

Shamiel brought the energy of game day and the wisdom of the locker room, sharing powerful messages about resilience, purpose, and staying grounded on and off the field.

The other Champion in the room was David Henry, Pastor of Higher Grounds Church when we was awarded the Michelle Briggs We're Here for Good Award. Congratulations, David!

Also, a big thank you to the Avedis Foundation for bringing exceptional speakers to our community!

Last week, we kicked off Health Week by celebrating National Senior Health & Fitness Day at the Shawnee Parks and Recreation! 🎉

From walking sessions and pickleball to tai chi and a wellness fair, our 55+ community came out strong to prioritize mobility, balance, and movement 💪

Huge thanks to Shawnee Rec for continuing to offer meaningful, accessible fitness for older adults in our community! 🧡
