Nurse Annie has been with SMPeds since April. She has been an amazing asset to our team ever since! In her free time, Annie enjoys photography and spending time with her family. She will also be welcoming a baby boy in the coming months!

*Tdap: Protects against pertussis (“whooping cough”). Pertussis is highly contagious, and babies can be easily infected - even those who do not attend daycare. Birth-2 months is the highest risk period of severe illness/death. Babies are not eligible to receive their pertussis protection until 2 months of age, so immunization for pregnant moms is crucial. This is given with each pregnancy to ensure plenty of protective antibodies are available for each subsequent baby. Unfortunately, there is a current pertussis outbreak in the area, making this shot even more important this fall/winter season.

*Flu and COVID: Pregnant women are at higher risk for severe illness from influenza (flu) and COVID. While these immunizations cannot stop you from getting the flu or COVID, the goal is to protect both mom and baby from flu/COVID-related complications and hospitalization for several months after birth. Babies cannot receive flu or COVID immunizations until 6 months of age. Myth buster: you cannot get flu or COVID from getting the shots!

*RSV (Abryvso): Protects against respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). RSV is one of the leading causes of hospitalization for babies under 1 year and can lead to severe respiratory disease. Millions of children are hospitalized for RSV-related illnesses each year. This shot is a one-time dose and will allow mom to pass antibodies to baby to protect him/her through RSV season. You will have the opportunity to discuss additional RSV protection given to baby after delivery (Beyfortus) with your pediatrician.
