Given what we now know about insomnia’s link to cognitive decline, here are practical steps for better sleep:

• maintain consistent sleep & wake times
• reduce nighttime noise/light
• limit caffeine late in the day
• create comfortable sleeping environments.

These adjustments can help protect memory and mental sharpness.

New research finds that older adults who engage in regular social activities—group participation, visits, companionship—have lower risk of depressive symptoms than those who are more isolated.

Here at Sharon Lane, fostering connections through shared meals, group activities, and family visits is central to our care philosophy.

Increased social participation is associated with a lower risk of depressive symptoms among older adults, according to a new study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.

A recent study showed that older adults with chronic insomnia (sleep troubles three nights a week for over three months) are at 40% higher risk for developing mild cognitive impairment or dementia, and may experience brain aging equivalent to 3.5 years more than peers with normal sleep.

At Sharon Lane, we prioritize helping residents get restorative rest. Good sleep routines, environment adjustments, and working closely with medical staff can make a difference.

Chronic insomnia can contribute to an increased risk of dementia in older adults, according to a new study published in Neurology.
