Not all pain feels the same, and that’s because not all pain is the same. Understanding whether your discomfort is coming from a muscle or a nerve can make a big difference in getting the right treatment.
💪 Muscle Pain tends to be:
• Achy
• Tight
• Sore with movement
• Improves with stretching or massage
Muscle pain often develops after overuse, strain, poor posture, or minor injury. It’s usually localized to one area and feels tender to the touch.
⚡ Nerve Pain tends to feel:
• Burning
• Electric or sharp
• Radiating down an arm or leg
• Associated with numbness or tingling
Nerve pain happens when a nerve is irritated or compressed, such as with sciatica, a herniated disc, or spinal stenosis. Unlike muscle pain, stretching alone usually doesn’t resolve it.
Why It Matters:
Accurate diagnosis ensures the right treatment approach.
Muscle pain may respond well to physical therapy, stretching programs, and targeted injections.
Nerve pain may require specialized treatments like epidural steroid injections or other minimally invasive procedures to calm inflammation around the nerve.
If your pain is persistent, worsening, or radiating, it’s time to get answers.
At Wisconsin Spine & Pain, we focus on identifying the true source of your discomfort so you can move forward with confidence. Don’t ignore pain that’s trying to tell you something. Let’s find the cause, and the solution!
