Seems to me that we are making a lot of mistakes. Osteopathy is on the run in America. In Canada, schools are closing left and right. In New Zealand enrollment is way down. And in the land of J. Martin Littlejohn the venerated BSO has closed, ESO collapsed, and Osteopathy is contracting in the UK.

For those of us who are left we must continue to love this great profession and help the next generations to carry forth the work of Andrew Taylor Still.

What does it mean: To be with a patient as an Osteopath? For me, it means when I'm with a patient, nothing else matters. They are the most important person in the world, in that moment, in my treatment room. They have my FULL attention.

This quote is attributed to William Sutherland, DO. This is a photocopy of a hand inscribed piece of artwork—or better stated, a notice or announcement—that was on the wall in Dr. Sutherland's treatment room. Patients saw this profound statement of Sutherland's philosophy. I would argue that this is an Osteopathic philosophy that likely was promoted by A. T. Still.
