Today is World Autism Awareness Day, and for eating disorders professionals, it's a moment that belongs in our clinical conversation, not just in advocacy spaces.

Research is clear: people with autism face significantly elevated rates of eating disorders. The reasons are complex and varied, including sensory sensitivities, thinking patterns, communication differences, and a diagnostic landscape that has historically missed the overlap. Understanding this intersection better equips practitioners to recognize what might otherwise be misread, and to deliver care that actually fits the individual.

Behind every iaedp chapter is someone who chose to show up.

Our chapter leaders and officers give their time and expertise to build the local professional communities that connect practitioners, support emerging professionals, and strengthen eating disorders care in their regions. Global Volunteer Appreciation Month is a small opportunity to say what's always true: we are grateful.

🎙️A listener recently shared this about iaedp Voices on AiR podcast:
"This is high-level expertise, knowledge, education, and accrued awareness that I, and others, typically lack the opportunity to hear."

Laurel Rice wrote that as a person with lived experience, and it's a reminder of why this podcast matters beyond the professional community. The conversations happening at the front edge of eating disorders science deserve a wider audience.

iaedp Voices on AiR brings those conversations to practitioners, students, researchers, and anyone invested in where this field is going.

Brain Awareness Week is a meaningful moment for every professional working in eating disorders treatment.
The science is clear: eating disorders are complex, brain-based conditions. Neurological research continues to deepen our understanding of why restriction persists, how compulsive behaviors take hold, and what the brain needs to support lasting recovery.

At iaedp Foundation, we're committed to education that keeps pace with the evolving science. Practitioners grounded in current neuroscience are better equipped to understand what drives restriction, compulsion, and recovery, and to deliver care that reflects that understanding.
