Johnson Chiropractic Neurology & Nutrition

Johnson Chiropractic Neurology & Nutrition I help people with chronic health challenges reclaim their lives without drugs or surgery via a multi-modal natural healthcare approach. Dr. Karl R.O.S.

I offer a caring and compassionate, yet no-nonsense approach to core level healing of the underlying malfunctions that lead to poor health. join me on your journey to healing. In 1983, Dr. Karl R.O.S. Johnson, a chiropractor and clinical nutritionist in Shelby Township, MI, followed his heart into the health field. Now hundreds of chronic condition patients in southeastern, Michigan have the relief and quality of life that most chronically ill patients hope and wish for, but seldom get. Unlike some who just ‘wander’ into the health profession and make a place for themselves, Dr. Johnson recalls how he was ‘drawn’ into the health field, it was his calling, his destiny. Before starting down his formal education path, Dr. Johnson had met many people and formed great relationships with individuals who he felt had the answers to his questions. Questions about health and healing, and why did the current “health care” system ignore the foundations of health. Time has really flown since Dr. Johnson graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic in 1983. He has met many wonderful people and has been blessed with a busy practice and a wonderful team of assistants. Now more than ever he finds it exciting to be a doctor of chiropractic and a clinical nutritionist. For years there has been a resistance to natural healing methods by others who were not yet enlightened by its benefits. Acceptance of methods complimentary to traditional medical care is at an all time high and as a result more and more people are seeking alternatives to drugs and surgery. His passion for helping people and learning about the principles that underlie the foundations for health is at an all time high. Patients with chronic conditions (fibromyalgia, vertigo and other balance disorders, peripheral neuropathy, migraines, hypothyroidism, severe back, leg, neck and arm pain, ADD, ADHD, Autism, autoimmune disorders, etc.) from all over southeast Michigan flock to the Johnson Chiropractic Neurology & Nutrition because of Dr. Johnson’s whole-person, patient-centered, functional neurological, structural and metabolic approach. Most patients know intuitively that there must be more to helping their chronic condition besides simply trying to patch it up with drugs, and with Dr. Johnson they get that complete functional approach that creates the vitality and quality of life they deserve. Johnson graduated Summa Cum Laude from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. and was voted to serve as the Vice President of the Pi Tau Delta Delta (an international chiropractic honorary society, open to the top 15 percent of the graduating class who have maintained a 3.50 cumulative GPA, have never withdrawn from a class or have never received less than a grade 3 for any quality grade while at Palmer. Invitations to Pi Tau Delta are issued during the final academic term.) At Palmer College of Chiropractic I began my intense study of neurology that I knew would allow me to serve my patients at a high level. Chiropractic Neurology is the newest, state of the art diagnostic and treatment technique. It brings together research findings from the fields of psychology, neuropsychiatry, neurology, neurophysiology, and nutrition — and used this knowledge to bring hope to the sick, unhappy, and hurting of all ages. Dr. Johnson states, "As a chiropractic physician, I strive to provide the finest care possible and provide an optimum environment for healing. Using the latest diagnostic tests to find the cause of your pain, suffering or ill health, it is possible to design a plan of care to get you back to your favorite activities fast. In my practice, you’ll discover a complete array of services for your entire family. Through a great number of continuing education courses, I have been very careful to master the newest and most effective techniques in chiropractic rehabilitative and wellness services as well as nutritional therapy. The procedures used in my practice are well suited for all ages from infancy to the elderly. Chiropractic is a quickly advancing field and I believe it takes dedication, diligence and just plain hard work to keep up. But I feel I must for the good of my patients." My personal free time is spent training for distance charitable cycling events (such as the MS Bike), a pursuit I picked up after one of my patients encouraged me to participate in my first 200 mile bike ride over two decades ago. I have completed 26 such rides on the western side of Michigan and even participated in a team triathalon where my team came in first place for the age group. I am the proud parent of 3 young adults, and am happily married to my wife Sandra. I also love to learn and study about health, the human body, success principles, and science. I enjoy gardening, healthy eating, fishing, scuba diving, sailing, hiking, photography and sight seeing.

Spotting Kids Who Need Extra Support for Breathing Challenges 🫁👶

Did you know that some children are more likely than others to experience serious respiratory issues like pneumonia, severe flu, or asthma attacks? Research from Mayo Clinic reveals that young kids with repeated bouts of wheezing, allergies, or a family history of asthma face a much higher risk of not just asthma flare-ups, but also hospitalization due to breathing problems.

Imagine if healthcare providers could quickly pinpoint which children are likely to face these challenges—just like a mechanic reading the warning lights on your car’s dashboard. 🚦👨‍⚕️ With this knowledge, parents and providers can work together on proactive steps, such as personalized preventive care or early interventions, to help these kids breathe easier and stay healthier in the long run.

Staying informed and taking action early could make all the difference for a child’s quality of life, inside and outside the doctor’s office. 📚💪 (Source: Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, September 2025)

⚽️ A recent study has revealed that frequent heading of a soccer ball may impact long-term brain health 🧠. Researchers used advanced brain imaging on 352 amateur soccer players and compared them to 77 athletes from non-contact sports. The results? Those with repeated head impacts showed microscopic changes in the orbitofrontal region—the very part of the brain responsible for memory, decision-making, and clear thinking 🧩. Notably, these changes were also linked to lower scores on cognitive tests 📉.

This adds to the growing evidence that, while soccer brings amazing physical and social benefits, repeated heading could put your brain wellness at risk over time 🚨. Think of your brain as the command center—each “jolt” from heading the ball is like a tiny shake, and those impacts can add up season after season.

For sports enthusiasts, protective strategies make all the difference. Staying informed and training smarter can help protect both your game and your long-term cognitive health 🥅💪. Whether you're a parent, coach, or player, understanding these findings can guide choices that support peak performance and lifelong wellness.

Low Back Pain: What Puts You at Risk? 🤔

New insights show that lifestyle choices play a big role in your chances of developing low back pain—and whether it lingers. According to a recent study in Mymensingh Medical Journal, people who frequently bend or twist, carry extra weight, or routinely sleep less than six hours a night face a significantly higher risk of back pain. 🚶‍♂️💤⚖️ Even more eye-opening: a higher body mass index (BMI) not only makes back pain more likely but also increases the chances it will become long-term and disrupt your daily life. 📉

Think of your spine as the main suspension system for your body—when it’s overloaded or not given enough “downtime” (quality sleep), wear and tear builds up. 🦴 If you’re juggling multiple roles, remember that little changes—like improving sleep habits or focusing on gentle movement—can protect your back and keep you moving comfortably. 🌙🤸‍♀️ Your daily choices truly add up when it comes to maintaining a healthy, resilient spine.

Staying active doesn’t just boost your mood and energy — it can also protect your long-term health. 🌱💪 Recent research analyzing data from over 140,000 adults shows that regular physical activity is linked to a noticeably lower risk of certain cancers. 🧬 In men, those who kept moving were less likely to develop colon cancer, while physically active women saw a lowered risk for both bladder and endometrial cancers. 👟🏃‍♂️

Think of your daily movement as a powerful shield — each walk, bike ride, or bout of yard work helps fortify your body from the inside out. 🚶‍♀️🚴‍♂️🌿 Whether you're taking evening strolls or squeezing in morning stretches, these simple choices can make a real difference in reducing your health risks. Your commitment to staying active truly pays dividends far beyond the present moment. ✨

Every move counts toward a healthier future!

Did you know that adding more fruits and vegetables to your daily routine is one of the simplest—and most delicious—ways to care for your brain? 🧠🍓🥬 A comprehensive review of 38 studies revealed that people who eat more produce are less likely to develop mild cognitive impairment than those who skimp on these nutrient-packed foods. Every vibrant serving of berries, leafy greens, or crunchy peppers acts as fuel for your mind—supporting memory, focus, and lifelong cognitive health. 🌿🫐 If boosting your brainpower naturally sounds appealing, fresh fruits and veggies just might be your body’s best allies. 🌈✨

Did you know that the tiny microplastics found in our environment could play a role in brain health? 🧠🌍 A recent study revealed that mice carrying the APOE4 gene—a gene linked to higher Alzheimer’s risk—developed Alzheimer-like symptoms after just three weeks of exposure to polystyrene microplastics and nanoplastics, at levels even higher than what humans typically experience. What’s even more eye-opening: male mice became more impulsive and less cautious, while females struggled with memory tasks, mirroring real-world patterns seen in people living with Alzheimer’s. 🧬🧪

This research adds a new layer to our understanding of how environmental factors may intensify the risks for those already genetically predisposed to neurodegenerative issues. Think of it like having an older car: if the engine (your genetics) is already vulnerable, adding low-quality fuel (environmental toxins) may speed up problems. 🚗⚠️ As we learn more, it’s clear that supporting a healthy environment is key—not just for the planet, but for our cognitive well-being, too. 🌱💪

Did you know the foods you choose each day can help shape your long-term health? 🥗 Here’s even more motivation to steer clear of ultra-processed foods: mounting evidence now shows a clear link between consuming these products and a higher risk of developing early colon cancer. 🚦

A recent study found that diets high in ultra-processed items—think packaged snacks, sugary cereals, and convenience meals—are associated with a greater incidence of adenomas, which are precancerous growths in the colon. 🚫🍪 These small changes in our food choices can truly make a big difference. Imagine your gut like a busy highway: when you fuel up with whole, natural foods, traffic flows smoothly and your body can repair itself more easily. 🛣️✨ But when ultra-processed foods become the norm, it’s like a daily traffic jam, slowing down vital repair processes and allowing damage to accumulate. 🚗💨

If you’re looking for practical ways to reduce these foods, try swapping out processed snacks for fresh fruit 🍎, or preparing a simple homemade meal instead of relying on prepackaged options. Your future self—and your colon—will thank you! 🙏

Did you know your brain has its own “waste management system” working hard while you sleep? 🧠💤 New research has discovered that how efficiently your brain clears out waste—via the glymphatic system—could actually predict dementia risk five years down the line. 🕰️

Think of the glymphatic system as the overnight cleaning crew for your brain, flushing out toxins and keeping your mind sharp. 🧹✨ If this system struggles, waste can build up and potentially lead to issues like dementia later in life. 🧓🏻⚠️

Staying hydrated 💧, prioritizing quality sleep 😴, and caring for your overall brain health are more important than ever. For those with chronic pain or autoimmune conditions, this connection highlights why a holistic, root-cause approach—including neurological chiropractic care and targeted therapies—matters for both body and mind. 🌱👐

Did you know that up to 95% of us have been exposed to the Epstein-Barr virus? 🤔 Yet, most people never realize it! Recent research published in Science Translational Medicine reveals a powerful link between Epstein-Barr virus and every single case of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). 🧬✨

If you’re navigating unexplained fatigue, persistent pain, or autoimmune flares, this insight gives us a new perspective on managing these challenges. 🦋💪 Imagine your immune system as your home’s security system—sometimes, a hidden trigger like a common virus can set off a chain reaction, causing your body to attack itself. 🚨🏠

By highlighting this research, we aim to empower our community to look deeper for root causes and inspire thoughtful conversations with healthcare providers. 🗣️❤️ For those living with SLE, or supporting a loved one with the condition, you’re not alone—and the path to answers just got a little clearer. 🌟

When your stomach growls, it’s not just hunger it’s your body activating autophagy, a biological process that literally means “self-eating.” This remarkable system allows your cells to break down old, damaged, or toxic components and recycle them into clean, usable energy. After about 14–16 hours without food, insulin levels drop and your body shifts from digesting to deep cellular repair. Mitochondria get refreshed, misfolded proteins are cleared, and cellular waste is dismantled leaving you with healthier, more efficient cells. This process may even lower the risk of Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and type 2 diabetes.

Autophagy isn’t a wellness trend it’s Nobel Prize–winning science. In 2016, Dr. Yoshinori Ohsumi received the Nobel Prize for uncovering the mechanisms behind it. Since then, research has shown that intermittent fasting or occasional 24-hour fasts can boost heart health, reduce inflammation, improve cognition, enhance metabolic function, and slow certain signs of aging. The byproducts of autophagy — amino acids, sugars, fatty acids don’t go to waste; your body recycles them to build new, stronger cells or to fuel essential functions. It’s the ultimate internal reset.

In many ways, hunger is healing. Our ancestors naturally fasted during periods of food scarcity, allowing their bodies to repair and rejuvenate. Today, constant eating often interrupts this ancient, restorative system. But short, well-timed fasting windows can safely trigger autophagy for most healthy adults. (Of course, pregnant women and individuals with medical conditions should always consult a doctor first.)

So the next time you feel hunger creeping in, remember: your body may not be crying out it might be quietly repairing, cleaning, rejuvenating, and making you stronger from the inside out.

Struggling with lipedema—a condition marked by stubborn, painful fat accumulation—can feel like an uphill climb with few real options. 😣⛰️ But there’s encouraging news for those seeking hope beyond mainstream treatments: emerging research shows that dietary carbohydrate restriction, especially through a ketogenic approach, may offer real benefits for lipedema management. 🥑🧬

Think of your body like a complex vehicle: when certain “fuel types” (like excess carbohydrates) keep gumming up the engine, switching to premium-grade fuel (healthy fats and proteins) can help things run smoother. 🚗💡 For individuals living with lipedema, this shift has been linked not only to a reduction in hard-to-lose fat deposits, but also to noticeable decreases in daily pain and inflammation. 🔥✨ Even more compelling? Many report improvements in energy, mobility, and overall quality of life—even if the scale doesn’t move dramatically. 🌟💃

At JCNN, we stay up-to-date with progressive, research-backed strategies to help you regain control of your health—without relying solely on medications or invasive procedures. 💪🧠 Interested in the science? Dive deeper into the latest findings here: https://hubs.la/Q03Tckg00
