Chiropractic & Nutrition Wellness Center

Chiropractic & Nutrition Wellness Center We recognize health is an inherent state of well-being in mind, body, and spirit. Our role is to remo join me on your journey to healing. In 1983, Dr. Karl R.O.S.

I offer a caring and compassionate, yet no-nonsense approach to core level healing of the underlying malfunctions that lead to poor health. Johnson, a chiropractor and clinical nutritionist in Shelby Township, MI, followed his heart into the health field. Now hundreds of chronic condition patients in southeastern, Michigan have the relief and quality of life that most chronically ill patients hope

and wish for, but seldom get. Unlike some who just ‘wander’ into the health profession and make a place for themselves, Dr. Johnson recalls how he was ‘drawn’ into the health field, it was his calling, his destiny. Before starting down his formal education path, Dr. Johnson had met many people and formed great relationships with individuals who he felt had the answers to his questions. Questions about health and healing, and why did the current “health care” system ignore the foundations of health. Time has really flown since Dr. Johnson graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic in 1983. He has met many wonderful people and has been blessed with a busy practice and a wonderful team of assistants. Now more than ever he finds it exciting to be a doctor of chiropractic and a clinical nutritionist. For years there has been a resistance to natural healing methods by others who were not yet enlightened by its benefits. Acceptance of methods complimentary to traditional medical care is at an all time high and as a result more and more people are seeking alternatives to drugs and surgery. His passion for helping people and learning about the principles that underlie the foundations for health is at an all time high. Patients with chronic conditions (fibromyalgia, vertigo and other balance disorders, peripheral neuropathy, migraines, hypothyroidism, severe back, leg, neck and arm pain, ADD, ADHD, Autism, autoimmune disorders, etc.) from all over southeast Michigan flock to the Johnson Chiropractic Neurology & Nutrition because of Dr. Johnson’s whole-person, patient-centered, functional neurological, structural and metabolic approach. Most patients know intuitively that there must be more to helping their chronic condition besides simply trying to patch it up with drugs, and with Dr. Johnson they get that complete functional approach that creates the vitality and quality of life they deserve. Dr. Karl R.O.S. Johnson graduated Summa Cum Laude from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. and was voted to serve as the Vice President of the Pi Tau Delta Delta (an international chiropractic honorary society, open to the top 15 percent of the graduating class who have maintained a 3.50 cumulative GPA, have never withdrawn from a class or have never received less than a grade 3 for any quality grade while at Palmer. Invitations to Pi Tau Delta are issued during the final academic term.) At Palmer College of Chiropractic I began my intense study of neurology that I knew would allow me to serve my patients at a high level. Chiropractic Neurology is the newest, state of the art diagnostic and treatment technique. It brings together research findings from the fields of psychology, neuropsychiatry, neurology, neurophysiology, and nutrition — and used this knowledge to bring hope to the sick, unhappy, and hurting of all ages. Dr. Johnson states, "As a chiropractic physician, I strive to provide the finest care possible and provide an optimum environment for healing. Using the latest diagnostic tests to find the cause of your pain, suffering or ill health, it is possible to design a plan of care to get you back to your favorite activities fast. In my practice, you’ll discover a complete array of services for your entire family. Through a great number of continuing education courses, I have been very careful to master the newest and most effective techniques in chiropractic rehabilitative and wellness services as well as nutritional therapy. The procedures used in my practice are well suited for all ages from infancy to the elderly. Chiropractic is a quickly advancing field and I believe it takes dedication, diligence and just plain hard work to keep up. But I feel I must for the good of my patients." My personal free time is spent training for distance charitable cycling events (such as the MS Bike), a pursuit I picked up after one of my patients encouraged me to participate in my first 200 mile bike ride over 18 years ago. I have completed 17 such rides on the western side of Michigan and even participated in a team triathalon where my team came in first place for the age group. I am the proud parent of 3 young adults, and am happily married to my wife Sandra. I also love to learn and study about health, the human body, success principles, and science. I enjoy gardening, healthy eating, fishing, scuba diving, sailing, hiking, photography and sight seeing.

🧬 Our bodies are made of cells—every tissue, every organ, every system. As we age, those cells can become more fragile, which may affect energy, balance, and overall well-being.

🐬 Here’s something remarkable: while caring for older Navy dolphins, researchers discovered an important connection to healthy aging. In fact, about 1 in 3 older dolphins develop aging-associated conditions similar to those seen in humans.

🔬 Doctors observed that dolphins with higher dietary and circulating levels of C15:0 were associated with the healthiest aging outcomes.* After more than 10 years of continued research and 100+ studies, we now know that C15:0 may help support healthier aging in people, too.

Clean indoor air may play an important role in reducing adult asthma attacks. 🌿💨 New research suggests that homes with air purifiers, proper airflow, no exposure to secondhand smoke, and fewer allergens—such as mold, pests, or pet dander—are associated with fewer asthma attacks, better sleep, and improved daily activity for adults with asthma.

That is one reason I take indoor air quality seriously at home and in the office. iAdaptAir has been my top choice for restoring and maintaining healthier indoor air. It operates quietly while helping address endos, actinos, MVOCs, and particulates down to 0.05 microns. I currently use four units across my home and office. ✅🏠🏢

As Dr. Ritchie Shoemaker, M.D., a pioneer in biotoxin-related illness (CIRS), shared:
“iAdaptAir is the first and last word in restoration and then maintenance of indoor air health.” 🌟

For additional support in my own environment, I also use AirOasis units in individual rooms and the WrightWay Environmental Technologies whole-house system on my HVAC system. Together, these have become an important part of my indoor air strategy. 🍃🔬

Cleaner air can support better breathing, better rest, and better day-to-day function—and that matters. 🙌

🧠 New research highlights the potential of cognitive training to support brain function after chronic traumatic brain injury.

In a recent *Journal of Neurotrauma* study (January 2026), brain imaging performed before and after a 14-week computerized cognitive training program showed meaningful improvements in white matter microstructure in adults with chronic traumatic brain injury. These changes were especially notable in areas connected to processing speed, attention, and working memory. 📊✨

Findings like these continue to expand the conversation around neuroplasticity and the brain’s ability to adapt through targeted, structured intervention. It is encouraging to see objective imaging data aligned with functional areas that play such an important role in daily life. 💡

How did you score on the lectin quiz? 📝✨

Lectins can affect people differently depending on blood type, so the same quiz score may have a different impact from one person to the next. 🩺🌿

Type O ❤️
Often more reactive to lectins found in grains, nightshades, and beans. If your score was moderate or high, consider reducing wheat, corn, and kidney beans first. Focus on beneficial proteins and low-lectin vegetables. Deflect O may offer added support. ✅

Type A 🅰️
May be more sensitive to certain bean and grain lectins. If your score was high, emphasize fermented or pressure-cooked options and be mindful of wheat. Deflect A is designed with these needs in mind. 🌱

Type B 🅱️
Often tolerates many lectins well, but may still react strongly to corn, chicken, and lentils. If your score was high, start by reducing those foods and monitor how you feel. Deflect B may help support recovery. 💪

Type AB 🔶
May experience mixed sensitivities across a wider range of foods. If your score was high, a balanced low-lectin rotation may be a helpful next step. Deflect AB can be a useful addition. 🌼

Your quiz score is just the beginning—the key is understanding what works best for your body. 💚

🚴‍♂️ **Cycling and Low Back Pain: What Riders Should Know** 🚴‍♀️

If you love cycling, this is an important reminder to pay attention to your spine and overall riding mechanics. A recent study involving **1,521 cyclists** found that **29.2% reported experiencing low back pain within the previous year**. 📊

The research also showed that certain riders may face a higher risk, including **younger cyclists, individuals with greater body mass, and mountain bikers**. 🚵‍♂️ While cycling offers many health benefits, factors like posture, bike fit, riding terrain, and repetitive strain may all play a role in spinal stress over time.

Low back discomfort should never be ignored, especially if it begins to affect your performance, recovery, or enjoyment of riding. Paying attention to mobility, core stability, and proper biomechanics may help support a healthier riding experience. ✅

Quiz: Are You Lectin-Sensitive?

Springtime allergens (primarily tree and grass pollen) can worsen lectin sensitivity in many people.

Lectins are natural carbohydrate-binding proteins found in many common plant foods, including grains, legumes (beans and lentils), nightshades (tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, potatoes), and corn. While they serve as a defense mechanism for plants, lectins can resist digestion in some people and bind to the lining of the gut, potentially triggering inflammation, increased intestinal permeability, and a range of uncomfortable symptoms. Sensitivity to lectins varies widely from person to person and can be amplified by individual factors such as gut health, immune balance, and — importantly — your blood type, as certain lectins interact more strongly with specific blood group antigens.

Spring pollen exposure drives a strong Th2 immune response, elevating cytokines like IL-4 and IL-13. These promote IgE antibody production, mast cell sensitization, and overall inflammation.

When your immune system is already primed this way, it becomes hyper-reactive. Dietary lectins (from grains, beans, nightshades, corn, etc.) can then act as additional triggers, indirectly activating mast cells and basophils, leading to histamine release and amplified inflammation. This creates a perfect storm in which normal lectin-containing meals cause more noticeable symptoms (bloating, fatigue, joint pain, skin issues, and heightened pollen reactions).

This 15-question self-assessment uses a simple 1–5 scale to help you gauge your personal level of lectin reactivity. It considers digestive issues, systemic symptoms, pollen sensitivities, reactions to grains/corn, and family history. Combined with your blood type, the results offer personalized insights aligned with the Blood Type Diet principles. Remember, this is for educational and experimental purposes only — not a medical diagnosis.

🪑 **One reason too much sitting may be unhealthy:** it could affect your body’s fluid balance in ways that matter for cardiovascular health. 💧❤️

One marker researchers have looked at is **serum osmolality**, which reflects the concentration of dissolved particles in the liquid portion of the blood and helps indicate hydration and electrolyte balance. When serum osmolality is higher, it has been associated with less favorable cardiovascular outcomes. 📊

A recent study suggests that **the more time people spend sitting, the higher their serum osmolality may become**. Possible reasons include drinking less water, consuming more diuretic beverages, putting off bathroom breaks, and experiencing blood sugar increases from frequent snacking while sedentary. 🥤⏳🍪

In other words, prolonged sitting may do more than reduce physical activity—it may also contribute to internal changes that can negatively influence **cardiometabolic health** over time. That’s one more reason to build more movement, hydration, and regular breaks into the day. 🚶‍♂️💦⏰

🥗 **Healthier eating habits may play an important role in supporting long-term colon health.** A large international study involving nearly **1 million adults** found that people who followed a diet rich in **fruits and vegetables 🍎🥦, especially leafy greens, legumes, dairy, coffee ☕, and tea 🍵** had a **lower risk of colorectal cancer**. The same study also found that lower intake of **red and processed meats, along with sugary drinks 🥤,** was linked to better outcomes.

These findings are another reminder that everyday food choices can have a meaningful impact on overall wellness. Prioritizing more whole, nutrient-dense foods and reducing heavily processed options may be a simple but powerful step toward better health over time. 🌿✨

💗 Women may face serious heart risks at lower plaque levels than men—a finding that highlights why heart health deserves personalized attention. Atherosclerosis, the hardening and narrowing of the arteries, can quietly progress over time and increase the risk of dangerous blockages if not addressed. 🫀

A recent study found that women’s risk of heart attack or hospitalization for chest pain may begin at a lower level of arterial blockage than men—about 20% compared with 28%. 📊 This suggests that commonly used risk thresholds may not always reflect the true level of concern for women and reinforces the importance of sex-specific prevention strategies and earlier awareness. 🚨

Understanding these differences can help support more informed conversations about cardiovascular wellness, screening, and prevention. Knowledge is power when it comes to protecting long-term health. 🌿
