Give my feature article a read in The Shelby Independent. I will serve honorably and always stand up for the citizens of our county. I humbly ask for your vote.

It’s been brought to my attention there is a member or two within the GOP saying that I’ve dropped out of the race and endorsed Wayne King.

The lies and games that some play are ridiculous and have no place in local politics, but unfortunately it exists heavily in Cleveland County.

However I do support Wayne King and wish him the best in his campaign. If elected, I know both of us will serve the residents of Cleveland County to the best of our abilities.

I will bring transparency and accountability to our local county. It’s just who I am and a couple of my primary personality traits. I’ve always been a just person. I was raised to never lie. I’ve always stood firm in my beliefs and have always stood for honor and courage. I stood that way during my service in the Marine Corps and during my career in law enforcement.

For a prime example, in 2011 I had to make an extremely tough decision while policing. One I knew would cost me personal gains and impacts for a short time and would cause some friction within the department. I had to report an officer for excessive use of force, but it was the right and just thing to do. This officer had struck and spit in the face of a young handcuffed suspect. I gave the officer a chance to report himself later in the shift, but was simply told, “Is that not how you policed in Asheville?”. No, absolutely not. No matter what a suspect had done, when they were in custody, they were respected and treated fairly. I was known to give suspects water after a fight or a foot chase. Treat everyone as I would want to be treated. I moved forward with filing a formal Internal Affairs complaint and that officer was removed quickly but unfortunately is still in law enforcement today at another agency.

Those types of officers do not belong in policing and they are the reason we’ve seen the distrust in police across the country the last decade. They are a disgrace to the badge and uniform so many wear honorably.

I am one of the strongest supporters of police and first responders you will ever find. Not those types of individuals obviously, which are few and far between, but the men and women who serve honorably and sacrifice so much to serve their community.

I will always be transparent as a commissioner and I will bring accountability to our local government.

I appreciate your support with early voting beginning this Thursday.

God Bless

In a recent media release by Senator Phil Berger on establishing a property tax reform committee….

“These members will examine ways to provide relief from local taxes while ensuring that local revenue is used responsibly to fund core services our constituents rely on.”

The members selected to look at reforms include Appropriations Chairs Sens. Brent Jackson (R-Sampson) and Michael Lee (R-New Hanover), Finance Chairs Sens. Dave Craven (R-Randolph) and Tom McInnis (R-Moore), along with Sens. Lisa Barnes (R-Nash), Jim Burgin (R-Harnett), Steve Jarvis (R-Davidson), Chris Measmer (R-Cabarrus), Tim Moffitt (R-Henderson), and Benton Sawrey (R-Johnston).

“They will consider policy proposals to rein in the runaway property tax practices being implemented across the state.”

I can’t help but notice the use of the word responsible, core services and reining in runaway tax practices.

Cleveland County’s budget for fiscal year 2022-2023 was $126,587,508.

The fiscal year for 2025-2026? $240,300,000.

An increase of over $113,000,000 or 89% increase in just three budget cycles.

We must promote fiscal responsibility. The average family is suffering, cost are out of control everywhere we turn. Our local government must lead by example.

I humbly ask for your support beginning with early voting on Feb 12th!

Join me in thanking all of the men and women who keep our communities safe. Who sacrifice holidays, nights and weekends with their families and who run toward crisis and danger when called. I see you and I’ve got your six. Thank you for your service and sacrifice.

This will be an extremely crucial primary for our county. I highly encourage doing your research on candidate positions, life long party affiliation, incumbent voting history and visions for our community. There are some great candidates to choose among.

I have always been a transparent person who strongly believes in accountability. That will carry forward if elected. There will be NO further raises on our property taxes and there will be reductions with the right candidates elected.

I appreciate your support and your vote. God Bless.

I’m glad to see Congressman Moore fighting for NC h**p farmers in D.C. Big industry lobbyist pushed for language in the CR that redefines h**p, effectively canceling the industry one year from the date of signing. I personally know many NC residents in the h**p industry, from farmers to retailers, along with one of the largest in the industry now calling Cleveland County home. Hopefully common sense legislation with common sense regulatory framework will prevail by next November, saving thousands of jobs and small family farms in our area.

I had the privilege of filing at the Board of Elections last week along with joining in several parades around Cleveland County. I will fight for transparency, accountability and fiscal responsibility within our local government. I pledge to fight wasteful spending and will fight for reducing our tax burden. I have been out and about in the community and listening to your concerns. With many families struggling to pay grocery bills, utilities and property taxes, it's time for our government to lead by example and live within our means. We must also put economic development at the forefront to bring higher paying jobs to our county. With many industries moving operations back to the states, it is imperative we are at the forefront of recrutiment in landing some of those in our county. Thank you for your support and I look forward to representing the hard working citizens of Cleveland County.
