People asked me in the past, why I became a therapist? I have not really had the opportunity to share why I become a Christian therapist/mental health counselor, so here goes.

I became a Christian therapist, because there was so little actual help being given to Christian people, and people in general, that are relevant to what people struggle with on a daily basis.

Sometimes people need more help in their life, than what is offered on Sundays. That is not knocking the good work that many pastors and good churches offer. But many times, I know that it has to extend past Sunday morning at 12 noon.

What about people dealing with pain at 12:02 pm Sunday afternoon? or 3am on Monday morning? When you lie awake with questions without answers? And more questions than solutions. How about that pain, or that anxiety. Oh yes the anxiety that gnaws at your soul? Yes, the pain, that dull ache in your soul that won't go away.

What about That pain that you can't wish away, you can't whistle in the dark away. Yes exactly that pain? The pain you've only been able to numb in the past with relationships, or alcohol, or drugs. The numbing only goes away for awhile, but then that ache, or emotional pain comes back with a vengeance.

I became a Christian therapist, because so many times growing up in the church, the common answer from mostly well meaning people, was just pray about and it will eventually get better. Or to just act like everything is okay, bury your feelings, and keep going. Unfortunately, that is called denial, and I know God has better for us. I knew in my heart, that although prayer is powerful, there must be something more. I also knew and know, from experience, that denial only holds at bay for a limited time, the REAL pain and suffering that people deal with. The answers I received were short-sighted in nature, and did not give us real, comprehensive results., that sustain people throughout our journey in life.

I will endeavor over the course of the next few days, weeks and months to talk more about how you can help yourself through therapy with me. But most of all, even if you don't come to my office, I hope these messages will encourage you to seek God, who ALWAYS has better for you! He always has a next level. Keep reaching for his and your best!

When someone is broken, don't try to fix them. (You can't). When someone is hurting, don't attempt to take away their pain. (You can't). Instead, love them by walking beside them in the hurt. (You can). Because sometimes what people need is simply to know they aren't alone.
