We are ready! Come what may!
Some horses come into stalls at night, all have shelter if they choose, lots of extra hay, warm mash for most twice a day, heated water, and several who stay outside have blankets…
Chickens have a heat lamp and lots of hay,
And Mr Mike has the truck parked outside the barn running so he can warm up during feedings.
And thank you Isaiah, David, Sloane, Emily and Mikayla for popping in to help us !!
God is good.
Praying for all you who are tending animals this week. Remember it will end!!❄️🙏🏼🥶

Much of the east is predicted to get a nasty rain/ice/snow event in the next couple of days. Places in the south are going to get weather they aren't used to.

Here is what you need to know about horses and winter storms.

It is fine for your horses to be out in the snow in most cases. Often even if a horse has free choice access to a shelter, he will stay out in the snow.

Where horses will be in trouble is if there is a heavy rain event followed by freezing temperatures. A heavy rain will thoroughly soak them and ruin the body's ability to raise its hair and trap air for insulation. If you can, we encourage you to either put your horses inside or put a waterproof blanket on them so that when the temperatures fall and the snow starts, they will be dry and able to weather the storm fine. (Let them out or take the blanket off when the rain is over)

Throwing them more hay will help to keep them warm. The very act of digestion is what provides them with an internal furnace.
If your horses stay out in winter storms please plan to up their hay amounts.

Horses with snow piled on their bodies means their insulation system is working. Please don't call animal control if your neighbor's horse has snow accumulation on their backs. That is what they Should look like.

That being said, some horses just can't figure out how to insulate themselves so if your horse is shivering and is not accumulating snow, something else must be done for them.

We understand that some of you will not be able to take your horses in or blanket them. In that case, Please throw out a lot of extra hay for them. Hopefully those of you that can't bring them in have trees your horses will be smart enough to get under.

Horses need access to water, salt and loose minerals during the cold weather. These things are very important for them to deal with the cold better. (these are, of course, important at all times) Be careful with your tank de-icers and water heaters.

Batten down the hatches folks. It is going to get interesting for some of you out there!

May you be blessed as you enter into a new year. Thank you to all of you who donated this year, and have faithfully walked with us in this ministry so far. As we enter out 19th season at the Ranch, we look back at the amazing people who have come alongside. You are the Ranch. Thank you.

So underneath a table in the kitchen I noticed a line of all the nativity refrigerator magnets on the long support piece. Mary, Joseph, baby Jesus, wise men, donkey. On the frig remained the empty barn.
While the adults were talking after dinner, Q had played out the story of Christmas. She had been arranging at the frig for most of the conversation, and we had moved back into the living room. But what we hadn’t caught right away, was a part of the story that had impacted her. The escape to Egypt. They were on the “road”. The rescue of baby Jesus from the bad king. Rescue. Hope.
Never underestimate what 3 yr olds are receiving through the Christmas story. Their little hearts are tender, receptive, compassionate. Childlike. Don’t miss it.
Last night we found out that one of our previous ranch teens was almost killed in an accident. She’s in ICU. Rescue. Hope.
Today I’m focusing on that part of her story. Christmas isn’t over. The whole reason God came as a baby was for our rescue. Hope. Don’t miss it.
Merry Christmas from Stormhaven♥️🙌🏻🐴
