🌟 Staff & Board Spotlight 🌟

Meet Nakeitha Rose — our amazing Board Secretary, dedicated community leader, and longtime client who brings joy, honesty, and strength into every session.

She’s been part of the Moving With HOPE family for years. In her own words, this program has helped her rebuild her strength, confidence, and independence in ways that truly matter day-to-day.

Her story is a beautiful reminder that progress doesn’t always show up in big moments — sometimes it’s the small wins, the steady steps, and the choice to keep showing up, even on the tough days. 💛✨

If you or someone you love is living with a spinal cord injury or another physical disability, we want you to know that you’re not alone. Real change is possible with the right support, the right exercises, and a community that believes in you. And yes… we’ll cheer for you on the good days and encourage you on the “I’d-rather-stay-on-the-couch” days, too.

We’re so proud of Nakeitha, and we hope her journey inspires you to take that next step — whether it’s trying a new exercise, reaching out for help, or simply believing in what your body can still do.

💛 Keep going. You’ve got this, and we’re here with you every step of the way.

🌟 Staff & Board Spotlight 🌟

Meet Everett Mosher — our Board Treasurer, long-time client, and all-around champion for the MWH community. If you’ve ever talked with Everett, you know he brings equal parts wisdom, humor, and heart to everything he does. And today, he’s excited about something BIG: our mobile unit bringing care closer to home for the people who need it most.

Everett shares his story with honesty and hope:
“I am a T6 complete spinal cord injury client and have been involved with Moving With HOPE for over ten years. Before my injury, I was an avid skier and backpacker, and traditional outpatient therapy worked well for sports injuries. But spinal cord injury rehabilitation requires far more than the standard 30-minute insurance model can provide. Through Moving With HOPE, I’ve gained meaningful physical progress and the confidence to live independently.”

For so many folks living with moderate to severe physical disabilities, getting to appointments can be exhausting, stressful, or simply not possible. That’s why the mobile unit matters. It brings high-quality, adaptive care right to your driveway — care that’s designed for real life, real challenges, and real progress.

Everett reminds us that when care comes to you, hope gets a little closer too.

If you or someone you love is looking for support that truly meets you where you are, we’re here — rolling up with equipment, expertise, and a healthy dose of encouragement. One visit at a time.

A major step forward for accessible SCI rehabilitation. ONWARD’s ARC-EX® System has received FDA 510(k) clearance expanding its indication for home use, opening the door for even more consistent and personalized neurological recovery.

At Moving With HOPE, we’re proud to offer ARC-EX® across our programs —
✅ Shelton clinic
✅ New Haven clinic
✅ Mobile Clinic (bringing adaptive rehabilitation directly into the community)

This breakthrough perfectly aligns with our mission to make high-quality, research-driven rehabilitation more accessible for people living with spinal cord injuries. Expanded home-use capability means even more opportunities for functional gains, strength, sensation training, and independence.

Empowering progress — in the clinic, in the community, and now at home.

We are pleased to announce that we have received clearance to expand the ARC-EX System indication for home use in the US. The Food and Drug Administration has cleared the ARC-EX System for use in conjunction with functional task practice in the clinic and take-home exercises in the home to improve hand strength and sensation in adults with spinal cord injury.

“For people with limited mobility who navigate daily logistical challenges, having the option to use this therapy at home can make a meaningful difference. Integrating in-clinic and at-home therapy may help support and maintain improvements in hand strength and sensation, contributing positively to overall quality of life,” said Dr. Candy Tefertiller, PT, DPT, PhD, NCS, Executive Director of Research and Evaluation at Craig Hospital in Denver, Colorado.

“For more than 40 years, the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation and our community have invested boldly in high-risk, high-reward science, pairing funding and leadership with the lived experience of those living with and those who care for them. Today’s achievement demonstrates that we are now seeing breakthroughs once thought impossible,” said Marco Baptista, Ph.D., Chief Scientific Officer of the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation.

The ARC-EX System is non-invasive and delivers programmed, transcutaneous electrical spinal cord stimulation. It is intended to be operated in medical centers by rehabilitation professionals and at home by patients and persons providing assistance to patients, as needed.

ARC-EX Indication for Use (US): The ARC-EX System is intended to deliver programmed, transcutaneous electrical spinal cord stimulation in conjunction with functional task practice in the clinic and with take-home exercises in the home to improve hand sensation and strength in individuals between 18 and 75 years old that present with a chronic, nonprogressive neurological deficits resulting from an incomplete spinal cord injury (C2-C8 inclusive). The ARC-EX System is intended to be operated in medical centers by rehabilitation professionals and at home by patients and persons providing assistance to patients, as needed.

Every movement matters — and sometimes, all it takes is the right signal to get things going again.

Here, our team member Ken is demonstrating the ARC-EX therapy system alongside Dr. Michelle, showing how small electrical signals can help reawaken nerves, rebuild strength, and restore confidence after spinal cord injury.

Each ARC-EX session is safe, guided, and designed to meet you where you are in your recovery journey. Together with expert therapists, this adaptive technology helps you move forward — one step, one signal, one success at a time.

Step into recovery — one gentle signal at a time.

At Moving With H.O.P.E., we believe progress happens in small, powerful steps — and the ARC-EX therapy system is helping make those steps possible.

The ARC-EX uses gentle electrical signals to help wake up nerves and support hand and arm movement after spinal cord injury — safely, non-surgically, and with real results. When paired with guided exercise and the support of our expert rehabilitation team, it becomes more than therapy — it’s a breakthrough in adaptive rehabilitation and inclusive health. 💪✨

If you or someone you care for is rebuilding strength after a spinal cord injury, this technology could open new possibilities for recovery and independence.

Our Story

Moving With H.O.P.E. (MWH) is an innovative adaptive fitness, rehabilitation, and learning center. We provide essential rehab, exercise, and skills training to people living with moderate to severe physical disabilities. Our services are available year-round and deeply affordable. Nationwide, MWH is the only organization that offers this level of support. MWH was founded in 2010 by Joanne and Thatcher ‘Tad’ Duni in response to a massive void in many of their clients' continuum of health and wellness: regular movement.

Forty years ago, Joanne and Tad both entered professions to help people recover from physical illness and injury. Together, they have served over 25,000 people living with physical disabilities. Throughout their careers — in which Tad founded Connecticut’s first adaptive fitness center and Joanne worked as a practicing physical therapist and administrator — they have made countless sacrifices to help and heal others. They have a real-world understanding of the barriers for people living with physical disabilities.

Since 2010, we have grown into a movement, empowering people to make meaningful progress towards healthier, happier, more independent lives. MWH has searched the globe for very effective, yet affordable, evidence-based rehab solutions and technology.

In 2019, we relocated to a larger facility and added more insurance-based therapies to our existing programs. In 2020, we expanded our support strategies to include more assistive technology, skills, and job training.
