Is the healthcare system we have REALLY about healing?
I've been giving this some serious thought.
Our doctors are trained so see the body as separate parts. They're trained in the fine art of diagnosing illness and prescribing medications. They're trained in the art of cutting and stitching. They're trained to look at blood work. They're trained to look at other methods as nonsense. All of that training takes many long years. . .
But does the prescribing of medications actually bring healing? If it does, why do folks have to stay on these medications for the rest of their lives? Why do these medications have so very many side effects? If medication is our go-to, and it is ubiquitous, why do we need more and more and more to maybe get the same effect we once did? If medications bring healing, why are we still experiencing the same problems that we started with or more?
If the body has excess parts that need to be cut out in order for it to be healthy, why was it created with those parts to begin with? Do we truly understand their function? Was the part itself bad or was it just responding to something else that was wrong, perhaps for a very long time? By cutting out the part, are we also fixing the underlying problem?
Blood work is considered KEY to figuring out what is going on, but the body has very specific ranges where it needs to keep the blood. To that end there are LOTS of mechanisms that work hard to keep the blood within those specific ranges, until a problem has been going on long enough for the body to start running out of raw materials. And is blood really a good reflection of what is going on inside the tissues? Isn't the state of the body's tissues what we really need to know? Should we really be basing everything off of just one way of looking at the body?
If our healthcare system is really about healing people, shouldn't people be getting healthier instead of sicker? If health is for the young and aches and pains for the old, why am I feeling better in my 30s and 40s than I ever did in my 20s?
Perhaps we've all been sold a bill of goods.
Perhaps the body is more than just parts. Perhaps it's an integrated, self-healing system that is affected not just by what happens to it, but by the environment around it.
Perhaps healing is more complicated than just popping a pill or cutting out a part that isn't working properly.
Perhaps the body has needs that aren't being met, and that's part of the problem. It is self healing after all. As in, it heals itself. There's nothing I can do, as a 3rd party to make it heal. I can learn what the body needs and share that knowledge. I can encourage you in the re-balancing of your body's systems. I can be an accountability partner as you walk your healing journey. . . but there are no magic pills. Healing takes time, effort, energy, and raw materials.
Healing comes from our choices. Choose wisely.
