is the sole owner of AcuNova Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine. She is a licensed acupuncturist in the state of California and she's nationally certified by NCCAOM. Marissa holds a bachelor of science degree in Health Sciences, with a focus on Health Education from California State University - Northridge. Her Doctorate degree is in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from Emperor's College in Santa Monica, CA. She also has a degree in Functional Medicine from Functional Medicine Universtiy. Functional Medicine addresses the underlying causes of disease, using a systems-oriented approach and engaging both patient and practitioner in a therapeutic partnership. It is an evolution in the practice of medicine that better addresses the healthcare needs of the 21st century. Marissa takes the time to listening to her patient's histories and looking at the interactions among genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors that can influence long-term health and complex, chronic disease. Using a systems-oriented approach of combining traditional healing approaches and modern day diagnostic tools is her main strategy. She strongly believes in not just treating an isolated set of symptoms, but shifting the paradigm of health care to treating the whole person.

It’s sad that some major food brands advertise to children that have harmful chemicals like artificial food dyes and BHT in their foods and cereals. You can help by signing this petition from the FoodBabe campaign to have Kelloggs remove these harmful artificial preservers from their cereals.

In 2015, Kellogg’s announced plans to remove artificial colors and artificial flavors from their cereals by the end of 2018.

Overly processed foods with lots of artificial preservatives will not preserve you. Good rule of thumb, if you can’t pronounce it, then it’s not good for you.

⚠️Warning next picture graphic⚠️ A licensed acupuncturist has years of training using fire cupping before they practice professionally. The second photo is from a real case where a patient went to someone who was only licensed in massage therapy (they don’t get fire cupping training in school) and used fire cupping on the client. She suffered from severe 2nd degree burns that can likely lead to scarring. The first picture is what fire cupping done properly would result as, with amazing health benefits. Always go to a licensed acupuncturist for this treatment.
