Some of the best activities for a healthy spine include building core strength and improving flexibility. These exercises or activities include but are not limited to; yoga, swimming, Pilates, cycling, and walking. These activities tend to involve strengthening the core and the muscles surrounding the spine which is very important for a healthy spine. Certain positions in yoga or Pilates may work on your core or even relieve the pressure buildup we sometimes feel in our spine by stretching and flexing our spine in safe but different ways. Swimming, cycling, and walking are good ways to get cardio in and have also very low impact on the joints and bones in our body. This helps weight management while also giving your body the movement and activity it needs. If feeling spine or orthopedic pain or discomfort, don’t hesitate to reach out to Axis Spine & Orthopedics today for a consultation! https://axissurgeons.com/what-are-the-best-activities-for-a-healthy-spine/

Back pain is one of the most common complaints among people who spend extended hours sitting, whether at a desk, in a car, or on the couch. Poor posture, a lack of movement, and unsupportive seating can all contribute to tension, stiffness, and pain in the upper, middle, and lower back. Fortunately, there are simple and effective strategies you can adopt to improve your posture, reduce strain on your spine, and relieve general back pain caused by sitting. Here’s how to build a back friendly sitting routine; Support a neutral spine. Sit upright with your shoulders relaxed and ears aligned with your shoulders. Avoid slouching, rounding your shoulders, or jutting your head forward. Use a lumbar support cushion or rolled-up towel at your lower back to support the natural spine curve. Proper leg and hip positioning also play a big role in your sitting posture. Keep your feet flat on the floor with your knees bent at a 90-degree angle. This lessens pressure on your lower back and muscles supporting your spine. Another big thing that can help is movement. Sitting in one place too long can cause extreme discomfort so, when possible, take moving breaks to stretch and walk around. https://axissurgeons.com/proper-posture-to-decrease-back-pain/

Sciatica is a nerve pain that shoots down your leg from your lower back, commonly mistaken with a “back ache”. It happens when the sciatic nerve is pinched or irritated. We can help with minimally invasive spine surgery by targeting the source of compression or by creating more space for the nerve. Both techniques aim to relieve pressure on the sciatica nerve and ultimately reduce pain. If you are feeling this type of pinched or irritated pain, call today to schedule your appointment! https://axissurgeons.com/treating-sciatica/
