Optimal nutrition plays a pivotal role in maintaining bone health and facilitating recovery from orthopedic procedures and injuries. A balanced diet rich in essential nutrients can significantly influence bone density, reduce inflammation, and accelerate the healing process. Calcium and vitamin D are well known for their importance in bone health. Calcium is the primary building block of bone tissue, while vitamin D enhances calcium absorption and regulates bone metabolism. Insufficient intake in these nutrients can lead to weakened bones and increased risk of fractures. Additionally, vitamin K plays a crucial role in bone mineralization, and deficiencies have been linked to lower bone density. Beyond these, other nutrients, such as protein, magnesium, and vitamin C, are vital for bone health and orthopedic recovery. A diet rich in fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains can provide these essential nutrients, support overall bone health and accelerate recovery from orthopedic conditions.

3 Everyday practices to better spine health:
1. Maintain a good posture. Keeping your back straight when standing or sitting can benefit your spine health, putting less stress on your spine overtime.
2. Lift objects properly. When lifting you should never bend your back and lift with your back. This puts unwanted pressure and stress on your spine and muscles in that area. Always lift with your knees while maintaining a straight back, regardless of how heavy the object is.
3. Stay active. Regular activity like swimming, walking, or running can benefit your spine health by strengthening the surrounding muscles around your spine to help better support your back and spine.

Spine health is crucial for overall wellbeing because the spine supports the body, enables movement, and protects the spinal cord and nerves. The spinal cord transmits signals between the brain and the rest of the body, controlling motor, sensory, and autonomic functions. Maintaining a healthy spine helps prevent pain, stiffness, and neurological problems. Axis Spine and Orthopedics can help you get back to it today! Both physical therapy and surgery aim to reduce pain, improve function, and enhance overall quality of life for individuals with spine problems. The choice between our services varies on the severity of the spinal conditions and of course the patients’ preferences. Call us TODAY to get your appointment scheduled!
