⚠️ IMPORTANT UPDATE! The USDA has announced that November SNAP benefits will not be paid to nearly 900,000 Washingtonians who rely on them. ⚠️

🥪 Check with your local churches and community organizations, Like Community Dinners (communitydinners.com/gatherings), that may be hosting food drives, serving meals, or providing food assistance

Plan Ahead this Week:
💡 Start meal planning now and take inventory of the foods you currently have.
💡With remaining October food benefits, prioritize shelf-stable, bulk, and low-cost items. * Note that any unused benefits will roll over and only expire after 274 days of EBT card inactivity.

Use Additional SNAP Programs:

If you have a remaining balance on your EBT card, you can participate in the following SNAP programs to receive additional benefits for fresh fruits & vegetables:

🍐 SNAP Produce Match - buy $10 of fresh, frozen, or canned fruits and vegetables with your EBT card at participating grocery stores and receive a $5 produce coupon: https://doh.wa.gov/you-and-your-family/nutrition-and-physical-activity/healthy-eating/snap-match-programs/snap-produce-match

💵 SNAP Market Match - visit a participating farmers market or farm stand to receive SNAP Market Match dollars. Simply visit the information booth and swipe your EBT card for the amount you’d like to spend. Participating markets will match $25 or more per day in Market Match dollars for you to spend on produce: https://doh.wa.gov/you-and-your-family/nutrition-and-physical-activity/healthy-eating/snap-match-programs/snap-market-match

⚕️ Fruit & Vegetable Prescription Program - The Washington State Department of Health’s Fruit and Vegetable Prescription (FV Rx) Program works with health care centers in Washington to prescribe fruits and vegetables to patients who are food insecure. Patients receive paper vouchers valued at $250-$500 over six months, redeemable at Safeway stores. Find out if you qualify: https://doh.wa.gov/public-health-provider-resources/public-health-system-resources-and-services/funding/fruit-and-vegetable-incentives-program/fruit-and-vegetable-prescription-program

If you have any unused benefits from any of these programs, you can still redeem them during the month of November.

Well, hello! Familiar names and newcomers, I'm glad to see you all.

Julia has volunteered to tidy weekly! Along with Padget and myself, that allows The Giving Shed to be open four days a week. New hours are Tues/Fri/Sat/SUN 9a-7p.

Our matchmakers have been hard at work and are ready for more! If you are interested in joining a partnership as a financial sponsor or as someone who is facing a delay/loss of SNAP benefits, please email Jennifer Sparkleberry at numericmama@gmail.com or message Suzanne Muñoz here on Facebook. Include your name, location, contact info, and dollar amount you are looking to give or receive. If you are the recipient, please also include information about dietary allergies, needs, and preferences

Other ways you can help:
- Donate shopping bags, food, beverages, toiletries, blankets, gloves, and any other household items that you no longer need/want.
- Tidy up before you leave. Take trash away with you if possible. Disposal of broken/expired items is our biggest financial expense.
- Follow this page, share posts, interact/like/comment. This all helps spread our reach.

-Tuesdays 5-6:30 at St Dunstans
-Wednesday 5-6pm at Popy's Cafe
-Thursdays 5:30-6:30 at Ronald UMC

An amazing community member, Jennifer Sparkleberry, has volunteered to help pair up folks who are losing SNAP benefits with folks who want to assist.

We are open today until about 7pm.

The Shed is pretty well stocked right now, although there is some space in the fridge for donations. Our biggest wishlist item is volunteer time to tidy and put expired/broken items in the bins.

Questions:
1. If we were to expand our hours, what day should we add? Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, or Sunday?
2. Who can volunteer to clean up on a recurring basis? We need volunteers for every day except Friday.

Hello wonderful people! I am thinking about expanding open hours for The Giving Shed, which leads me to two questions.

1. What day would be most beneficial to add?

2. Is anyone able to commit to cleaning once a week? (Any day except for Fridays, because Padget takes care of us on Fridays.
