During Spiritual Care Week, we want to recognize Sister Janelle for her compassionate ministry here at Ecumen. What makes spiritual care at Ecumen unique is the opportunity to serve residents from all faith backgroundsโ€”or noneโ€”offering them a chance to share their stories beyond just what they are going through today.

Thank you, Sister Janelle, and all Ecumen chaplains, for the vital role you play in supporting our community. Read more about Sister Janelle's story below.

Shelley Kendrick, President and CEO of Ecumen, was honored to speak at the inaugural RISE Conference, hosted by the Lucy Family Institute for Data & Society at the University of Notre Dame.

As part of a panel titled โ€œHealing in Community: Addressing Loneliness & Mental Health for Sustainable Social Resilience,โ€ Shelley joined professionals from Blue Cross Blue Shield, Northwestern University, and AARP to explore how we can build stronger, more connected communities, especially in an era where social isolation and mental health challenges continue to rise.

At the heart of the RISE Conference is a powerful question:
How can we conscientiously design and deploy artificial intelligence to positively impact society?

More than 330 participants from 16+ countries, 55 companies, and 38 universities gathered at Notre Dame to explore this question through the lens of Responsibility, Inclusion, Safety, and Ethics โ€” the guiding principles of RISE. With breakout sessions, panels, workshops, and six research tracks, the conference highlighted the diverse and interdisciplinary future of AI, grounded in real-world societal needs.

At Ecumen, our mission is to empower individuals and families to confidently navigate aging so that it is a purposeful journey filled with dignity and support. Shelleyโ€™s participation in this conversation reflects our deep commitment to ensuring that innovation, especially in AI, is used to uplift people, foster connection, and create communities of care.

"This was an incredible opportunity to not only speak about the needs of our older adult population that we serve now and in the future, but it was incredibly humbling to learn from so many across the globe on how AI can, and should, continue to advance for social good and that all of us must be responsible for safe, ethical and inclusive governance," said Kendrick. โ€œThank you to the University of Notre Dame and the Lucy Family Institute for Data & Society for inviting me and putting on such an important thought-provoking conference."

In Ecumen President & CEO Shelley Kendrickโ€™s office hangs a vibrant painting created by memory care residents at Ecumen Prairie Lodge in 2012. With fingers, brushes, and a lot of heart, they brought it to life during a group art activity.

It now serves as a daily reminder of why we do what we do, and the people we do it for. Read more about this story below.

Step into Ecumen President and CEO Shelley Kendrickโ€™s office, and a vibrant abstract painting immediately catches your eyeโ€”not just striking in style, but rich in story. [read the full story here]

Last week, we had the joy of gathering with our amazing Ecumen Insiders, including past and present board members, assembly members, community supporters, and dedicated volunteers. It was a night full of meaningful connections, shared stories, and exciting updates from across Ecumen.

Our President & CEO, Shelley Kendrick, delivered inspiring highlights from the past year and led a thoughtful (and lively!) Q&A session that brought great conversation and insight.

A huge thank you to our generous event sponsors โ€” Lathrop GPM, Felhaber Larson, Pope Design Group and our annual sponsor, GrapeTree Medical Staffing, LLCโ€” for helping make this evening possible. Your support means the world to us!

We are honored to announce that Ecumen Lakeview Commons in Maplewood, MN, in partnership with Viconic Health, has earned the Bronze Award in the Falls Prevention, Management or Detection category at the 15th annual McKnight's Excellence in Technology Awards!

This recognition celebrates our dedication to resident safety and innovative solutions that make a real difference in the lives of those we care for.

As Anne Stepenick, Clinical Director, shared:
โ€œThe impact of a fall goes well beyond the fall incident. It affects a resident's wellbeing, team member time, family involvement, even end-of-life decisions. Anything we can do to reduce injury helps everyone.โ€

Weโ€™re proud of our team and grateful for the opportunity to improve lives through innovative technology and compassionate care.
