Last night, members from our crew at the Anoka, MN, base visited the Somerset Fire Department in Somerset, WI, for a Landing Zone Training! 🚁🚒

Our team walked through best practices for establishing a safe landing zone, coordinating with air medical crews, and ensuring seamless patient transfer during critical moments.

A huge thank you to the Somerset Fire Department for their partnership, engagement, and commitment to keeping their community safe. We’re proud to train alongside you!

Shoutout to our team members, Chris Herron, for teaching, and Michael Lewis, Sara Wallentine, and Adam Donahue for supporting the training.

We are grateful to have the support of local Walmart stores in and near our base communities throughout the region. To date this year, Walmart stores in Alexandria, Baxter, Park Rapids, and Willmar in Minnesota, as well as Marshfield and Merrill in Wisconsin, have donated more than $5,000 to support our crews in Alexandria, Brainerd, Detroit Lakes, Willmar, Marshfield, and Rhinelander through Walmart's Spark Good Program. Funding will help us acquire essential supplies utilized in the care of critically ill and injured patients.

Our hearts are with Vanderbilt LifeFlight as they mourn the loss of one of their own following yesterday’s tragic accident. We also hold the surviving crew members, along with all those impacted, close in our thoughts and wish them strength and healing in the days ahead.

👏 Alright, everyone, put your hands together for the INAUGURAL winner of the Eileen Frazer Spark Award, sponsored jointly by AAMS and CAMTS—🌟 Kevin Rixmann, BSN, RN, NRP, CCRN-CSC, CFRN 🌟 from Life Link III in Shoreview, Minnesota!

Kevin is recognized for his visionary leadership and groundbreaking work in expanding access to advanced cardiac care. He played a central role in launching the nation’s first Rural eCPR program, a transformative initiative that brings mobile ECMO capabilities directly to rural communities—dramatically improving survival rates for cardiac arrest patients far from tertiary care centers.

This innovative model, developed in collaboration with the University of Minnesota Hospitals Mobile ECMO program, is both scalable and replicable, offering a blueprint for improving outcomes in underserved areas nationwide. Kevin’s commitment to patient-centered solutions and his ability to challenge the status quo have helped redefine how cardiac care is delivered in rural America.

Beyond his technical achievements, Kevin is a mentor and role model whose passion and clarity of vision continue to inspire colleagues. His work exemplifies the spirit of the Spark Award—igniting change, sparking innovation, and transforming the future of emergency medical services.
