Satya: Truthfulness 🕊️

Satya, the second of the Yamas, invites us into honesty - in our words, our actions, and the ways we see ourselves.

It’s not always easy. Speaking and living truth can ask for courage - the willingness to be seen, to acknowledge what’s real even when it’s uncomfortable, and to stay kind while doing so. Satya asks us to speak truth with compassion, to align what we say with what we know to be real, and to notice where we might hide or overextend ourselves.

✨ Community with Purpose | Supporting The Gem Project ✨

This year, we began an initiative at the studio to support nonprofits and meaningful causes in the ways we can - starting close to the heart of our own community.

Our first gathering brought us to the Gem Project Gala, where we had the honor of supporting a mission born from love, loss, and a deep desire to help others.

The Gem Project was founded to honor Emily Nord, who passed away from a rare form of cancer at just 28. It was Emily’s wish to help other young adults and kids on their cancer journeys - not only medically, but through integrative care that supports the whole person: body, mind, and heart.

Emily was the sister of Sophia and the daughter of Greta - two of our incredible teachers who helped bring this project to life and continue to pour their hearts into it today. We are so proud to stand beside them.

The Gem Project’s Mission:
At The GEM Project, their mission is to enhance the lives of pediatric cancer patients by providing funding and support for integrative medicine approaches that complement traditional treatments. Through research, education, and collaboration, they work to increase access to therapies that comfort, strengthen, and empower children and their families throughout their cancer journey.

Ahimsa: non-harming đź’ś

Yoga is much more than the poses we practice on the mat. The 8 Limbs of Yoga, outlined in the ancient text The Yoga Sutras, guide us toward a balanced and mindful life. The Yamas are the first limb - ethical guidelines for how we relate to others and the world - and Ahimsa, non-harming, is the first Yama.

We asked our teachers to share what Ahimsa means in their own lives, and their reflections offer a beautiful glimpse into how this principle can be lived in words, actions, and daily choices. How do you practice Ahimsa in your life? How could you expand or deepen that practice?

Slowing Down: Honoring Your Body Through Your Cycles and Seasons
✨ with Elizabeth Schultz Mother Nurture Collective
Sunday, Nov 9 | 3–4:30pm

So often, we move through our days on autopilot -always doing, striving, saying “yes.” This workshop invites you to pause, breathe, and come home to yourself.

Attend one or both sessions.

“If you would seek health, look first to the spine.”
— Hippocrates

Your spine is the central axis of vitality — not just a structure of bones and discs, but the pathway of energy and communication through your entire being. When your spine is supported, your whole system functions with greater ease, clarity, and freedom.

This 2-part therapeutic yoga series offers a deep dive into the health and longevity of your spine through mindful movement, somatic awareness, and self-release techniques.
You’ll explore:

Therapeutic yoga for spinal alignment and balance

Somatic movement for neuromuscular re-education

✨ Monthly Breathwork with Val ✨
Friday, October 24 | 7:00–8:00pm | In person at Spirit of the Lake Yoga

When life feels noisy, busy, or overwhelming, the breath is a powerful way to return home to yourself. Join Valentina McCachren for an evening of mindful breathwork to clear mental clutter, release tension, and reconnect with presence.

Val brings her authentic, heartfelt energy to each session—creating a safe, tender space where you can simply arrive as you are. With a short introduction to the breathing pattern, about 20 minutes of gentle and connective active breathwork, and a long rest to integrate, this practice is both grounding and freeing.

No experience needed—just bring yourself (and maybe a mat, blanket, or eye mask if that feels good). Props are available at the studio.

You’ll leave feeling spacious, calm, and more at home in your body. 💛
