Trigger warning - cheesy post
This season’s recipe ingredients:
-Start with a goal - big ones are best.
-Get an inspired and genius coach - one that inspires you as well.
-Love and appreciate those that are close to you - just because your training takes you away for a bit doesn’t mean you can’t grow even closer.
-Train - every day is training…some training looks like rest and recovery.
-Sleep - more.
-Get excited - spend too much time on YouTube watching people that are awesome (I’m not sure this step was helpful… but I did it)
-Feel the love from a bunch of supportive patients/friends.
-Understand your ‘Why(s)’ - I had many. One was that I wanted my daughters to know it is ok to try something that you’re not great at, something you’re scared of, or something at which you might fail.
-Get super lucky and have your best friend stroll into town at the last minute to pace your biggest race.
-Grind.

I (stephen) ran a bunch of long races this summer.
I’ve been treating runners for years.
I personally got back into running a couple years ago in order to test the system.
In the process of becoming a runner, I’ve learned a ton.

The most important thing I’ve learned is that self-care allows me to be present and be my best for the ones I love - family, friends, and our patients.

None of this would have been possible without the support of .young555 and my folks
I love you guys.

Foam Angel - this is a truly functional exercise as it prepares you for the snowy season here in Milwaukee.
Ok, for real though, use this exercise to counteract that crappy cell phone posture you’re currently in. 🥸
In all honesty, we had an hour to shoot video the other day and we were super efficient. We recorded 8 videos for patient home exercise prescriptions. It was only later that day that I realized all 8 were shot vertically and will have to be re-recorded horizontally at a future date… at least we had a good time doing it 😁

It’s been a while since I’ve posted…I have a love/hate with social media.
This said, I’m filled with excitement, love, joy, and all the other good feelings and I had to tell someone. Gifting someone a plant that they can nurture, love, and watch flourish is one of the best gifts in the world.
I’m stoked about these little spider plant babies and can’t wait to get them in some soil!

On Fridays I water the plants. I climb a ladder and take a different view of the space that I spend a whole lotta time in during the week.
This new view provides a new perspective. An opportunity to be grateful. Grateful for the chance to work with so many fascinating people during the week and to learn from them. Grateful for my own health and ability to help others. Grateful for a family that I head home to on Friday afternoons, ready for a weekend of adventure and rejuvenation.
Have a great weekend.

For my (Stephen’s) 37th birthday, I ran an unsupported 37 miles through the beautiful Northern Kettle Moraine.
A pretty wonderful day was a culmination of A Lot of training and preparation. Hundreds of hours of training planned by Jim Guarnaccio (thank you!) Patience and support from family and our Crux Crew (you). Hours of mental training and a huge focus on improving sleep. Dialing in nutrition. Countless hours of self-care.
The run was really just a jaunt to test it all. And it seemed to come together nicely. Having family there at the end made every single step easier.
In the last 4 months I’ve noticed that I’m at my best when I’m following a training plan. With a focus on a goal and discipline to stick to the plan, the rest of life seems to be a little sweeter. I appreciate time with family, prioritize sleep, and enjoy every bite of my food a bit more.
Forward.

Single leg deadlifts (SLDL)

One of my favorite exercises for foot stability, hip strength and stability, rotational trunk stability, shoulder stability, and training neck stability.

If you look closely, you can see my brain 🧠 think the same cues I give patients in the office:
-“keep your hips level”
-“keep you neck neutral”
-“breathe, pressurize, hiss, release”
-“pack that shoulder”
-“active foot”
-“woah there! That one almost got away from you!”

Well, Alex Nimmer did it again. In this article he throws truth bombs out there like it's his job.
If you have pain in your knees, read up.
If you know someone who has knee pain, please share.

Knee pain is not just a runner’s problem, though it is often referred to as Runner’s Knee. It is experienced by many people who enjoy all sorts of sports such as hiking, climbing, baseball, track and field, lifting, CrossFit , and cycling. Pain in the knee can appear either all at once because o...

We Created Crux for You

When rock climbing a specific route, there are typically sections that are easy and manageable, and then there are more difficult sections. The most difficult section is referred to as the “crux.”

The crux of any route is something that must be overcome, not just to complete the route, but to get past barriers that can sometimes feel impossible to surpass.

Moving through the crux of any challenge often requires the help or advice from a friend or coach. This is why we created Crux.
