Dr. Mary Kim has served as an Associate Professor of Clinical Surgery and Chief of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at LSU Health Shreveport since 2009 surgically training residents and teaching medical students. Dr. Kim is a board-certified plastic surgeon who strives to achieve the highest standards of patient care, respect patient concerns and goals, and achieve elegant results for her patients using the latest surgical techniques. As a woman and surgeon, she understands what her patients are going through, their concerns, and their needs. Dr. Kim did her undergraduate work at MIT in Cambridge with a Bachelor of Science in Molecular Biology and earned her MD from Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston. She trained in general surgery at the State University of New York Health Sciences Center Downstate and at the National Institutes of Health/National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Maryland, where she dedicated herself to surgical cancer research and patented a genetic molecule to fight cancer. She completed her plastic surgery fellowship at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. Being educated in top schools and trained in rigorous residencies have prepared Dr. Kim to become a highly skilled and versatile plastic surgeon. She is an active member of the American Society of Plastic Surgery (ASPS) and served on the Education Committee of the ASPS, writing examination questions to test plastic surgeons for the National Board of Medical Examiners. Dr. Kim is also a member of Shreveport and Louisiana State Medical Societies and currently sits on three national committees for the ASPS. Besides her love for plastic surgery, she enjoys spending time with her beautiful children.
