Shameful that it had to be something forced for them to do. This is another efffect of Robert Kennedy Jr. we must appreciate, politics aside.
PepsiCo is making a bold move that could change the way we snack.
The company announced it will remove all petroleum-based synthetic dyes—like Red 40, Yellow 5, and Yellow 6—from products including Doritos. These dyes have long been linked in studies to inflammation, hyperactivity in children, and potential long-term cancer risks. While regulators allow limited use, growing scientific and public concern has pushed PepsiCo to act.
Instead, snacks will be colored with natural alternatives from fruits, vegetables, spices, and algae—beetroot, turmeric, paprika, and spirulina—ingredients already common in European markets. The shift isn’t easy; natural dyes are more sensitive and require changes to manufacturing, but PepsiCo says consumer trust and long-term health outweigh the challenges.
This move reflects a bigger trend: people want transparency and safer ingredients. Will this push the entire snack industry toward healthier practices? Share your thoughts and let’s discuss how science is reshaping what we eat.
