Too often, symptoms get brushed off or labeled as “normal.”

But the reality is, women wait longer for diagnoses, are more likely to have their symptoms dismissed, and are 50% more likely than men to be misdiagnosed after a heart attack.

And part of the reason runs deeper than most people realize. Until the early 1990s, women were routinely excluded from clinical trials. It wasn’t until the NIH Revitalization Act of 1993 that inclusion in federally funded research became required.

That means much of modern medicine was originally studied primarily on men, and we are still catching up today.
