This Thanksgiving week brings new routines, noise, travel, and sensory overload for many kids. For neurodivergent children especially, stimming isn’t “acting out”—it’s their nervous system trying to regulate.
Stimming helps a child:
🧠 Release excitement
😣 Manage overwhelm
😌 Reduce anxiety
🎯 Stay focused
Instead of saying:
• “Stop that.”
• “Sit still.”
• “Calm down.”
Parents and caregivers should try:
✨ “I see you.”
✨ “I’m right here.”
✨ “How can we help your body feel comfortable?”
Understanding stimming means supporting kids with compassion—at home, in the office, and in every space where they deserve to feel safe. 💛
