Patient: “I want to battle dinosaurs!”
SLP: “I want to work on rhyming!”

How did they compromise? Each dinosaur was assigned a word. The patient had to locate the two words that rhymed to determine which two dinos would battle. The result? A rhyming dinosaur battle blast! 🦖🦕💥

Compromise to incorporate highly preferred activities into therapy sessions is a recipe for high motivation, progress and fun for all!

Did you know that early exposure and prolonged exposure to screens changes the actual physical development of your child’s brain? (And not for the better 👎)

As a parent, it’s a tricky world navigating tech boundaries (we get it!) But educating yourself and implementing good habits from early on is the key to success!

‼️Important Takeaways‼️

- Avoid portable screens(phones and tablets): they distract the child from real life interactions and language opportunities or become the child’s unhealthy coping mechanism during instances of dysregulation.

- “Educational” apps are typically not age appropriate for young children and do not have proper research proving the benefits.

- TV can be a great language opportunity with quality programs and shared language experience between the child and adult.

- Language is best learned through human interaction and play!

This way, as a parent, you know when to enjoy those adorable errors and when to seek intervention if they persist.

And don’t forget-we’re always here for any questions you may have about your child’s speech intelligibility!
