Shirley Ann Thurber, 89, of Anna, Ohio, passed away on March 31, 2026, with her family by her side, at CareCore Health - Minster, Ohio. She was born on September 14, 1936, to the late Francis and Bessie (Kelly) Wilson.

Born into loving and humble beginnings in Wilmington, Delaware, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Thurber; her father, Francis Wilson; her mother, Bessie (Kelly) Wilson; and her sister, Debra Wilson.

She is survived by her brother, Robert (Nona) Wilson of Newark, Delaware; and her sons: Bruce (Cathy) Thurber of Evans, Georgia; David (Kathy) Thurber of Sidney, Ohio; Ronald (Carol) Thurber of Anna, Ohio; and Darryl (Danielle) Thurber of Sidney, Ohio. She also leaves behind nine grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.

Shirley was the true matriarch of her family. She devoted her life to God, her family, and her friends. She was always ready with a warm smile, a kind word of encouragement, a Band-Aid when needed, or a loving but firm word to guide those she cared for. She never met a stranger. Her coffee pot was always on, and she had a special gift for making sure there was always enough at the table for anyone who stopped by. She will also be remembered for her thoughtful correspondence. In a world of modern technology, Shirley remained devoted to handwritten letters, cards, and packages, spending hours keeping in touch with those she loved.

No services are planned at this time. Cremation has been entrusted to Salm - McGill & Tangeman Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wilson Health Hospice or Catholic Social Services of Miami Valley.
