Our community library is creating a list of the small roadside libraries located in and around town. They are calling them "Signal Story Stations", and they are worth checking out! These stations, along with your local library, are great places to find new children's books to read. Typically you can take one home with you as long as you bring one to leave for someone else. We've said it before, and we'll say it again. 😁Reading to and with children is one of the best ways to build language! Children are exposed to new vocabulary and get to experience words with visual supports. These roadside libraries also have books for parents to enjoy as well, so take a minute to check one out near you.
WHAT ARE SIGNAL STORY STATIONS?
You've seen them around town. Small boxes on posts filled with free books to share with your friends and neighbors. You probably call them “little libraries”—but believe it or not that phrase is protected by copyright, so we'll call them Signal Story Stations.
We at the Signal Mountain Library thought it might be fun to compile a list of all the Signal Story Station locations and create a map everyone can use to hunt for them. Would you like to help? Just send address or intersection information to jatkinson@signalmountaintn.gov. Soon we'll create a page on our website to show all the Stations you can visit.
All aboard!
