Dustin's Dream

Dustin's Dream Dustin Lee Chamberlain was a Sophomore at Baylor University, majoring in Biology and pre-med when he left this world as we know it for his Heavenly Home.
(1)

Our Mission: Sharing the transformational love of God by meeting the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of at-risk individuals and families in Guatemala and beyond. On December 15, 2011, after just returning home for Christmas break, Dustin was tragically shot and killed during a home invasion. Dustin was actively involved in the MSO (Medical Service Organization), AMSA (American Medical Ser

vice Organization), and the Bear Pit (a basketball spirit organization) at Baylor University. He attended Harris Creek Baptist Church in McGregor, TX. Dustin’s dream was to be involved in the medical field as well as participate in mission trips abroad or at home. Students at Baylor remember Dustin as a mighty man of God, an encourager, studious, and genuinely kind. When students questioned Dustin as to how he could consistently make wise choices and stand firm in his faith, Dustin would reply, “Because I love God with all my heart and I don’t want to give Him less than my best.”

Prior to his time at Baylor, Dustin attended Siloam Springs High School where he was a vital member of the basketball, cross country and golf programs. Dustin also participated in Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the Big Brothers and Big Sisters mentoring program, and was an Arkansas Scholar. Dustin graduated in May 2010 with 4.0 GPA. At 20 years of age, Dustin’s work here on earth was accomplished. And while our family has struggled to understand God’s sovereignty, love, and perfect will, God has proven Himself to us over and over again. Our desire is that Dustin’s Dream will be a successful organization that will share God’s love in a dark and hurting world, and that Dustin’s legacy will continue to impact souls for Christ.

Peregrinos is a term you'll hear us use often, it is the Spanish word for "pilgrims."

Every Wednesday evening, we do a service and feeding there in the settlements for the peregrinos. These pilgrims are the men, women, and children living on the streets. There is a time of prayer and worship, a brief message, and then a warm meal served. Volunteers wash and dry the peregrinos hands on the way in and conduct the service.

We are grateful to have some key people locally that are very involved in this ministry.

Meet Aura 🤍

We shared her story in our latest newsletter. She is currently homeless and works as a street vendor. As a child she grew up in a home that believed, but by the age of 15 she had lost both of her parents and her life took a turn when she began a life of addiction on the streets.

After giving birth to a son, who is being raised by her sister, she found herself pregnant again and in a new relationship. This second pregnancy helped to open her eyes to making a change in life, and she began to seek help.

Our Peregrino Service, "Pilgrim Service," is something she attends as regularly as possible on Wednesday's. Through these services she began working on getting her documents and identification papers in order because because over the years they had gotten lost. She also learned about our Corazon de Amor Medical Clinic where she began receiving care for her pregnancy.

The church helped her and her partner rent a room, and her life seemed to be getting on track. Unfortunately, during a routine check while working, she was arrested due to some legal issues from her past. She was transferred to a prison 102 miles away. She gave birth to her daughter while in prison. Her partner was unable to come and see her because of the distance.

Upon release from jail, she was not allowed to get her daughter back because of her life circumstances. Aura has faced many challenges, but she is still moving forward on the path to changing and bettering her life. She is asking for prayers to gather the money needed to be able to be with her daughter again.

Stories like Aura's show the impact of the work we are doing in Guatemala. Will you please continue to pray for her?

“For by Him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities — all things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.” - Colossians 1:16-17

"Sharing the transformational love of God by meeting tangible needs..." is essential part of our mission statement at Dustin's Dream. The February trip was an example of this in action. Emilio is an 82-year-old man who our co-founder, Don, met this past October of 2025. At the time, Emilio told Don that he was sad, as he was losing his eye sight and could no longer see to read the small print of a Bible. This February, while Don was in Xenacoj with a team, they were able to connect with Emilio and gift him his very own large print Bible and magnifying sheet for reading. Emilio was elated and extremely grateful! We were thrilled that the Word of God was made accessible to someone longing to turn its pages. Thank you for your continued generosity that makes a difference in lives like Emilio's.

Meet Oscar. On Saturday, February 21st, a missions team comprised mostly of women from Grace Community Church in Bartlesville, OK, accompanied the regular staff to Xenacoj. They helped distribute the breakfast, shared their testimonies with the group, imparted the Word, and asked who might want to give their life to Jesus. Oscar stepped into the center of the circle and made the decision to give his life to Christ.

Oscar has a history of significant loss, alcohol and drug addiction, as well as suicidal ideation. He is currently residing at the Freedom House, and the Lord has done a dramatic work in this man’s life. You can read Oscar’s story here: http://bit.ly/4bvykOt

Final update!

FRI - The team stuck around the settlement area of the Guatemala City dump. They visited different homes, bringing with them bag of groceries and prayerful hearts as they conversed with families. After lunch, the ladies from the Celebrate Recovery ministry had a round table discussion with Pastor Saul and Dr. Layla to talk about the Freedom House and recovery ministry. That evening, the team served a warm meal to anyone and everyone in the settlement community who came to the feeding.

SAT - This morning was an early one as the team headed back to Xenacoj to worship with the men of the Freedom House. A member of the team shared her testimony and another led in the singing of “Lord, I Need You.” It was an encouraging time!
The rest of the day was spent primarily at the Guatemala City airport, as a delayed flight has made for a wrench in travel plans home. Please pray for smooth travels the remainder of the way and for physical health for the team 🙏🏼
