COVID-19 Antibody Testing

Getting quite a few questions about the serology antibody testing, so some clarification is needed.

Test is available to the public. You do not have to be a patient of Silsbee Family Medicine.

Appointments are mandatory. If you walk-in, you will be given an appointment which may be at a later time or date.

When you call for an appointment, you will be asked several qualifying questions as well as demographic information.

Hope this clears up some of the confusion.

COVID-19 Antibody Testing is Available Now

We are happy to be selected by LabTech Diagnostics as a site in our area to offer one of the first serology antibody tests available for COVID-19.

The COVID-19 antibody test could become a key element in fighting the pandemic by providing a more accurate measure of how many people have been infected and potentially enabling Americans to get back to work more quickly.

Instead of a nasal swab, the new test is a blood test that examines a patient's antibodies to reveal who is infected, who has already been exposed to the virus, who is recovering from the virus, and who may be immune to the virus.

The serology test is cheaper than the nasal swab, produces quicker results and reduces the potential for false positives. Results are usually received in 36 to 48 hours, instead of 5 to 14 days.

There is no prep necessary for the test. Call us at 409-386-1200 to schedule your lab appointment.

Please note that if you are sick, or one of your immediate family members is sick, please call the 6 County Hotline at 409-550-2536 to be screened first.

COVID-19 UPDATE
In response to one patient’s confirmed positive test of COVID-19 at the 6 County Region testing facility on Thursday, April, 2, 2020, Silsbee Family Medicine took proactive steps to prevent the risk of infection or its spread. On Friday, April 3, we were closed for cleaning. All patients who had appointments on that day were notified by clinic staff.

As healthcare providers, our first priority is serving our patients and community. We have always taken precautions to protect the health of our patients, visitors, and care givers.

We follow the recommendations from the CDC and other regulatory bodies for workplace safety. For many years, SFM has enforced respiratory hygiene guidelines for respiratory symptoms during the flu season. These measures have continued during this COVID-19 outbreak. Patients who have fever, cough, sneezing, or body aches and chills are given a face mask to wear for the entire duration of their visit. This practice ensures that the risk of transmitting any infectious respiratory disease to others is low.

The following restrictions are being put in place to help protect our patients, caregivers and community. We are limiting our entrances and visitation policy to those appointments where it is necessary for you to come to the clinic.

We have closed our waiting room. All patients are asked to call when you arrive in the parking lot and wait for your appointment in your vehicle. When room is available, you will be escorted directly to the exam room.

Patients may have only 1 person with them at any time.

New clinic hours are 8 a.m.- 5 p.m. until further notice
Well appointments ONLY: 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Sick appointments and walk-ins: 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

All patients, visitors, and clinic staff before entering the building:
Must use hand sanitizer.
Will have their temperature taken.

Dr Cartrett is open for healthcare again today.

08/30/2017

Dr Cartrett has the clinic open again today. The road conditions have deteriorated so we have fewer of our amazing staff members helping Dr C. As we said yesterday, we are available to help if your medical care cannot wait, but use caution and common sense in making your travel plans.

08/29/2017

We are open today if anyone needs healthcare. We will be open as long as the current conditions allow. All the local authorities are advising against travel at this time and many of our local roads are flooded, but if something can’t wait until better weather, Dr. Cartrett and our awesome staff members are here. ALWAYS use caution. Come only if you can get here safely. Be Wise about your decision to travel. This weather has been a trial, but the Lord has blessed us with strength, and we will persevere.
