Did you know that smokers are 7 times more likely to develop periodontal disease than non-smokers?

We often can recognize the cosmetic defects it may cause, but what about the more serious dental and health problems?

The American Dental Association (ADA) discusses that smoking and to***co products are responsible for oral health problems that include:

-Dulled sense of taste and smell
-Accelerated gum diseases (gingivitis)
-Slow healing from surgery on the teeth and gums
-Greater susceptibility of infection
- Oral Cancer

What if I can't quit?

Although cessation is the best adoption to improve oral health, we recommend for patients to have a strict daily routine of brushing and flossing twice a day. Make sure to use an interdental toothbrush (aka tongue scraper) and rinse with mouthwash in your daily routine!

Why do we take dental x-rays?

We take them to assess potential issues in areas that we cannot see. Taking x-rays can help us detect problems early so that treatment can be planned to prevent tooth loss! We also use x-rays to help us prepare and know what to expect for future treatments. When we compare a new and old x-ray it can help diagnose whether presenting a condition is stable, progressing slowly, or rapidly!
