🌼🤧 Allergies or a Cold? How to Tell the Difference! 🤒🌼

Sniffles, sneezing, and congestion—sound familiar? It can be tough to know if your child has seasonal allergies or just a common cold!

👀 Here are a few helpful clues:
✨ Itchy eyes/nose? More likely allergies
🌡️ Fever or body aches? Probably a cold
📅 Symptoms lasting weeks? Think allergies
🦠 Symptoms gone in ~7–10 days? Likely a cold

Understanding the difference can help you choose the right care and keep your child feeling their best 💙

🌸

It’s sometimes difficult to know whether the problem is seasonal allergies or "hay fever" vs a common cold (upper respiratory infection). The diagnosis is often made when parents seek their pediatrician’s advice for a lingering “cold” that their child can’t shake. Learn more here.

Why do school-age kids suddenly talk less?

They’re growing.

As kids get older, they start processing more internally.
They’re building independence.
They’re figuring out who they are.

Silence doesn’t mean distance.
It often means development.

Keep showing up. Keep listening.
They’re still talking, just in new ways.
💛💛💛💛💛💛
¿Por qué los niños en edad escolar de repente hablan menos?

Están creciendo.

A medida que crecen, comienzan a procesar más cosas internamente.
Están desarrollando independencia.
Están descubriendo quiénes son.

El silencio no significa distancia.
Muchas veces significa desarrollo.

Siga presente. Siga escuchando.
Todavía están hablando, solo que de nuevas maneras. 💛

Tip: calming phrases that help children

Try saying:
• “I can see this is frustrating.”
• “Do you want help, or do you want to talk it out?”
• “That makes sense.”
• “Let’s take a breath together.”

You don’t have to solve everything right away.
Feeling understood helps kids calm down and think more clearly. 💛
