Music Therapy harnesses the power of music to help people heal and improve their overall quality of life.

Pennsylvania is fortunate to have colleges like West Chester University with outstanding music therapy programs; however, without a professional music therapy license in the state, many students leave the state after graduation to pursue their careers in states that offer licensure.

I was glad to gather with music therapists, teachers, and advocates to discuss the importance of music therapy and why licensure will help improve our well-being and keep our students in Pennsylvania after they graduate. I am glad to work with my colleagues Senator Vogel and Rep. Pashinski on legislation that establishes a professional music therapy license here in the Commonwealth.

West Chester University's Wells School of Music and Office of External Relations invite you to join Senator Carolyn Comitta and the Music Therapy PA State Task Force for a very special and important event toward music therapy licensure.

On April 14th, 2026, from 11-12:30PM EST, Senator Carolyn Comitta and colleagues, the PASTF, faculty and students from West Chester University's music therapy program, local music therapists, and recipients of care will discuss the necessity of passing SB579 state licensure for board-certified music therapists.

This state licensure would open avenues for state revenue, professional protection, and, most importantly, expand access to services across the state. Let's keep music therapists in Pennsylvania!

General public attendance is available via Zoom by scanning the QR codes below or by clicking this link at the time of the event.

Many students come to Pennsylvania colleges to study music therapy, then immediately leave the commonwealth after they graduate because we don’t offer a professional music therapy licensure.

That’s why I’m glad to work with Senator Elder Vogel Jr. and Rep. Eddie Day Pashinski on legislation to keep Pennsylvania competitive and add a professional music therapy license in Pennsylvania so these students will stay in the commonwealth after they finish their education.
