Menopause is talked about like it’s a full system shutdown.

It’s not. While it's a time of immense change . . .

Your body is adapting.
And yes—there are real physiological shifts.
But most of what supports you now…
isn’t actually new.

It’s the same foundations—just applied with more awareness, more intention, and a little less “push harder” energy.

Strength matters.
Muscle matters.
Nutrition matters.
Rest and recovery matter more than we often give them credit for.

And just as important?

👉 Your nervous system
👉 Your consistency
👉 Your ability to choose what’s sustainable—not what’s extreme

Because this season isn’t about chasing a version of you from 20 years ago.

It’s about building a body you trust now.

One that feels steady.
Capable.
And fully on your side.

Save this for the days you feel like everything has changed…
and need the reminder that the fundamentals still hold you. 🤍

You Deserve Better Than “No Pain, No Gain” Midlife movement isn’t about pushing through. It’s about tuning in. My emails show you how.

Life lately; A Sunday morning read; am I the only one who travels with a hardcover? Bluebird days and summer nights in Boulder, Colorado as Nicky navigates the post surgery healing process. Poignant; as I remember being 20; on the cusp of adulthood, needing and not wanting all at once.

If you’ve been feeling like your body isn’t responding the way it used to…

You’re not imagining it.

Midlife changes your nervous system, your recovery, and your energy patterns.

So the “push harder” approach?
It often stops working.

What I see again and again is this shift:

When women stop overriding their bodies
and start working with them…

Everything begins to feel steadier.

More strength.
Better energy.
More trust.

That’s the work.

💬 What feels most familiar right now?

This is exactly the work I do.

Strength + nervous system support

What if midlife didn’t have to feel so destabilizing?
Introducing Strong, Steady & Regulated . . .

Midlife asks a lot of us.
New symptoms. Changing energy. Shifting priorities.

Strong, Steady & Regulated is designed to help you meet this phase with more clarity, more support, and a steadier relationship with your body.

Not by pushing harder.
But by learning how to work with your nervous system, your strength, and your rhythms.

You'll gain some practical tools that will support real life:
– A Holistic Women’s Health Assessment
– A planner to support your daily health routines and personal wellness vision
– Weekly reflection prompts to deepen learning and help you stay on track
As a founding group, your reflections and feedback will help shape the future of this work.

In only 8 weeks here's where you'll be:

✅ You’ll feel deeply heard and supported, not like you have to figure everything out on your own.

✅ You’ll begin to understand what’s happening in your body—and why, which alone can bring enormous relief.

✅ You’ll leave with practical tools you can actually use when symptoms or stress show up.

✅ You'll learn how to structure your workouts, so you intentionally balance challenging your body with adequate rest and recovery

✅ Your energy will begin to feel steadier and more reliable.

✅Your body will start to feel less like a problem to solve and more like an ally you can trust again.

Yesterday, I shared a post about sleep and the rhythms of the nervous system.

About the 2–3 a.m. wake-ups many women experience in midlife…
about cortisol cycles, hormone shifts, and how easily our internal clocks can get disrupted.

And today I’m taking it back to my roots in yoga... Yielding to the ebb and flow of life and settling into its’ waves is called “Spanda” in yoga philosophy. A single word that captures so much of what nurtures us and keeps us whole in this world that conspires to take us away from clarity and ease.

Our bodies are not designed to operate at a constant setting that this life often seems to demand of us.

They move in rhythms.
Sleep and waking.
Activation and recovery.
Movement and stillness.

Like waves, we rise, and we fall.

But modern life often asks us to ignore these cycles—to keep pushing forward even when the body is asking for restoration.

From a nervous system perspective, that’s when things start to feel off:
Sleep becomes fragmented, energy feels wired and tired, and the body struggles to find its natural rhythm again.

The somatic work I teach is, in many ways, about returning to these rhythms.

Learning to listen to the signals of the body.
Building strength and recovery.
Honoring both movement and rest.

Because resilience isn’t about staying in one state forever.

It’s about learning how to move gracefully through the ebb and flow of life.

And remembering that the body already knows the way.

Spring Forward arrives right in the middle of Sleep Awareness Month, and for many women in midlife, the timing is… less than ideal.

Hormonal shifts—especially declining progesterone—can make sleep lighter and nighttime waking more common. If you’ve ever found yourself staring at the ceiling around 2–3 a.m., you’re not alone.

Our bodies thrive on their natural circadian rhythms; When sleep becomes fragmented, cortisol and stress responses tend to rise, leaving us feeling wired and tired, and less resilient during the day.

The encouraging news: the nervous system responds beautifully to small, consistent signals.

Morning light, movement, calming nighttime rituals, and a sleep-friendly environment can all help the body recalibrate its internal clock—even after the time change.

Midlife sleep isn’t just about discipline.
It’s about creating the conditions where your body can recover.

Strong, steady, and regulated—even at night.

“Women don’t accidentally bulk up—we’re far more likely to be under-strengthened."

A student recently told me she worries that strength training makes her “bulk up” and interferes with her yoga practice.

This concern is incredibly common—and it’s rooted in a misunderstanding of how muscle actually develops.

Building significant muscle mass requires sustained heavy training, adequate calories, and usually years of progressive overload. Opting out of strength training because of the fear of an unlikely "bulking up" means you are cheating yourself out of physiological longevity and resilience.

For most women, especially in midlife, strength training supports joint stability, bone health, metabolic health, and resilience.

In other words, it helps your yoga practice rather than working against it.

Women typically produce 10–20× less testosterone than men, which is one of the reasons large hypertrophy (or building muscle) is harder to achieve without very specific training and nutrition strategies.

In my work with strength training for women in midlife, the focus isn’t aesthetics. It’s learning how to create a body that feels steady, responsive, and trustworthy again. That also shifts the fear factor.

Strength becomes another way of listening to your body.

Heart Rate Variability provides a measurable window into the resilience of our nervous system.

Research shows HRV tends to decline across the menopausal transition and is associated with increased stress reactivity and cardiovascular risk. Hormonal shifts influence autonomic balance — which may explain why sleep feels lighter, stress spikes faster, and recovery takes longer in midlife.

If we frame this as feedback and education, not fragility, we can manage it and not just live with it but thrive.

When we build strength, regulate breath, and support recovery, we improve autonomic flexibility. We increase our capacity and resilience.

Resilience isn’t about eliminating stress from our lives but rather
increasing our tolerance for the inevitable variability and change.

Because when your nervous system feels steadier, you feel at home in your body again.

For a long time, my work has been about helping women move well, breathe and feel strong.

What I’ve learned is this: strength and yoga alone are not enough. We’re multi dimensional creatures and o r well being is so much more complex that’s just one thing.

Midlife requires context. Education. Nervous system support. Progressive overload that respects your current capacity. And a place where you don’t feel like you’re figuring it out alone.

In 2026, I’m expanding my offerings to include more personalized coaching experiences alongside my classes.

Same foundation.
Deeper support.
More integration.

Because this phase of life deserves more than fragmented advice.

It deserves a steady plan and a supportive community. f you’ve been craving more personalized support in this phase of life, I’ll be sharing details in the coming weeks.

The first invitations will go to my email community. 💌 you can get on the@list at the link in my bio! ⬆️.

Monday motivation on Tuesday."

The ultimate flex really is flexibility. Flexibility is your superpower.

Psychologically, flexibility is strongly associated with resilience and lower anxiety. In movement science, variability builds capacity. In strength training, progressive overload works because we adapt to what’s in front of us — not what used to be.

If this resonates, I share more reflections like this (and practical tools) in my newsletter — body-led, evidence-based, and designed for this chapter.
