Apple Tree Therapy, LLC provides revolutionary occupational therapy and pediatric therapy treatments for children with special needs (autism, sensory processing disorders, ADHD, learning disabilities, developmental delays and more). It empowers parents with knowledge, training and tools that bring peace of mind. And the kids love it! Apple Tree Therapy, LLC is the lifelong dream of owner, Jackie Brown, and her husband, Wayne, to open a private practice occupational therapy clinic for children of all ages in Kitsap County. Their goal is to provide the highest quality therapy services to the community (children, parents, grandparents, physicians, and other clinicians) while helping children reach their highest potential. Integrating families into the treatment process and development of their children’s skills is an important part of the occupational therapy provided at our clinic. What is Occupational Therapy? Occupational therapy, often abbreviated as “OT”, is an applied science and health profession providing treatment to help people achieve and maintain independence in all areas of their lives, or things that “occupy” their time. For children that means helping them perform daily life tasks, such as going to school (handwriting, visual perception, cognition), moving through their environment (fine and gross motor coordination), processing sensory input, being part of a family (play, emotional and social skills), and self care skills (dressing, bathing, eating). What is Sensory Processing Disorder? Sensory processing refers to the way the nervous system takes messages from the senses and the world around you and turns that information into a response. Sensory Processing Disorder or SPD (previously called Sensory Integration Dysfunction) is a neurological disorder in which the sensory information that the individual perceives results in abnormal responses. People with SPD frequently get misinformation or misinterpret the sensory feedback they receive. This frequently leads to difficulty functioning in daily life tasks.
