PROVIDER SPOTLIGHT!

Get to know your acupuncturist, Jennifer Briggs, LAc.

What’s your favorite warm drink in the winter?

Early in the day, I like fresh ginger tea. Later I like black tea for its warming quality and a little lift of caffeine. After about 2 pm, I will reach for a decaffeinated chai tea with its warming ginger, cardamom and cinnamon, or golden milk with those same herbs and some turmeric as well to turn it that beautiful golden color.

What music are you listening to these days?

I’m such a throwback for music! My favorite music has always been from the 60’s and 70’s, even though I wasn’t even born until the early 70’s! Recently I’ve been listening to playlists with lots of Three Dog Night, Donovan, Electric Light Orchestra, and the Tedeschi Trucks Band. Luckily, my 18-year-old daughter keeps me from getting in too much of a rut with her favorite bands: Green Day, the Kneecaps (contemporary Irish punk music), and some hip hop/rap group that I forgot the name of already- it was pretty good though!

What’s making your own body feel cared for as we go into winter?

Drinking fresh ginger tea each morning before breakfast- I make the tea every few days with about 4 inches of ginger root in 4 or 5 cups of water, boil it for 15-20 minutes and then store it in the refrigerator in a mason jar with the ginger still in it. Every morning I pour a small amount, maybe 1/3 cup, into hot water and drink it before I take my morning walk before breakfast. Ideally, I have one nice gingery belch, which tells me that my stomach is ready to accept food.

Here at White Oak Wellness we use cupping therapy to address a wide variety of different presentations in the body.

As acupuncturists we have in-depth training in the different styles and uses and cautions for cupping.

Why might some get cupping?
🫁 lung ailments
❤️ blood stagnation (impaired circulation)which shows up as pain
💪🏼 muscle tension
⚽️ recovery from sports
🌳 skin issues

Cupping can also be diagnostic for us as practitioners. We cup the body and see how the tissues, skin and circulation respond. This gives us a lot of information about how to proceed in treatment.

In these photos Milly Monette, LAc. is using glass fire cups to treat upper back tension.

Come see Milly and experience cupping for yourself by a skilled clinician.

Energy drinks are a no no no no. They are also so hard to stop drinking once you start, but you can do it.

Start adding other more nourishing drinks to your life and the other harmful ones might just fade away.

Here for ya!

Take a look at the conception vessel. The Conception Vessel or Ren Mai is a Yin Meridian that runs along the front or Yin side of the body.

Tune into the front of your body, what does it feel like today?

Chinese Medicine is a whole system of medicine, so is Japanese and Korean Medicine. These systems treat the body, the mind, the emotions, and our energy.

The practitioners at White Oak Wellness have decades of combined experience in this whole system approach to the body. We have studied in depth the practices of China, Japan and Korea.

While we have studied a lot, we keep studying because this is a life long apprenticeship to the medicine that has been so generously shared with us by our teachers.

At times our bodies need different types of medicine. Maybe acupuncture is all you need, but maybe adding Chinese Herbal Medicine would help even more? Maybe adding Chinese nutrition would help ease your stomach pain? Maybe you need a massage. Have you tried the very gentle approach of Japanese acupuncture? There are options for you. Keep going.

How do you know what you need? This is a big question at certain times in our lives.

There are times when it’s obvious and there are times when it’s murky. Sometimes we need help, actually - lot of the time we need help.

The beauty of East Asian Medicine is that we look to the vitality in the body and establish a meeting point of a pattern or patterns that the body is showing us.

This pattern differentiation begins treatment. You have to know where you are, to know where we desire to go and then be open to the process.

A skilled clinician walks the journey with you. They listen, like really listen, with all of their senses. They treat appropriately with the many tools they have to help.

If you haven’t tried Chinese Medicine/Japanese Medicine/Korean Medicine, do it! These systems are life giving.
