Emotional co-regulation is a gentle way for both parents and kids to calm down together ๐Ÿซ‚. It helps your child feel safe while teaching them how to handle big emotions. Here are a few tips you can try at home this week:

1. Pause and breathe together. When things get tense, sit close and take five slow breaths side by side. This quickly calms both of your bodies and shows your child that it's okay to slow down.
2. Name the feeling out loud. Say something simple like "I can see you're really frustrated right now." Putting words to emotions helps your child feel understood and makes the feeling less scary.
3. Offer a quiet hug or gentle touch. Ask if they want a hug or just hold their hand. Safe touch releases โ€œcalm-downโ€ chemicals in the brain for both of you.
4. Use a calm voice to describe what's happening. Say "Your body is feeling upset, and that's okay, we're going to help it settle." Hearing your steady voice helps your child borrow your calm until they find their own.
5. Do a small shared activity after the storm. Color together, read a short book, or rock gently side by side. This helps everyone shift back to feeling connected and safe again!

1. Start with a shared pause. Sit together and take three slow breaths before saying anything.
This helps calm your bodies and makes the talk feel safer right from the start.
2. Take turns sharing one small thing that felt hard this week.

Simi Psychological Group was founded to serve a great need in the Simi Valley community. As weโ€™ve spent time in this town and gotten to know itโ€™s residents we recognize that it's a really tight-knit community. We know how dedicated the people who live here are to building one another up and helping their community grow. And in the process, weโ€™ve also seen a lot of families who are under stress. Who feel pressures in their lives to meet high standards. And sometimes this pressure keeps them from feeling like they are in charge of the direction of their lives. So as we noticed the ways our community was struggling, we felt called to step in and help. It was undeniable the ways that moms were overwhelmed, young kids were struggling to fit in, teens were having trouble finding themselves, and couples were finding it hard to stay on the same page. We knew that if we could help local families get in touch with their deep-rooted beliefs and how these thoughts contribute to the big picture in their lives, we could help them manage their time, connect with one another, and find clarity around their goals and dreams. Our ultimate goal is to empower you and your family to recognize which areas of your lives you want and need to change and for each of you to feel capable of making those changes. We are dedicated to helping you and your family identify the obstacles that are keeping each of you from living the lives you want. It is our goal to work with you to get through your blocks so that you can reach the goals you have for yourself and to make sure your family finds its way. We offer child therapy, adolescent therapy, anxiety and depression therapy, couples therapy, neuropsychological assessments, and social skills groups.
