As you get older, it’s common to notice changes in balance. But here’s the good news: balance is a skill, and like any skill, it can improve with practice. McLean's BOUNDLESS Wellness can help - and we're sharing a few tips to improve balance in our blog.

If your new year's resolutions include improving your balance or another element of your fitness, don't miss our BOUNDLESS Wellness Open House on Saturday, January 24, from 10AM to 12PM at the Goodrich at McLean, 50 Sarah Lane, Simsbury. Come meet our team and experience our unique approach to fitness for people 55+! Call 860-658-3750 for more information about BOUNDLESS Wellness at McLean.

As you get older, it’s common to notice changes in balance. Muscle strength declines, joints get stiffer, reflexes slow down, and our vision and inner ear—the systems that help us stay upright—become less sharp. But here’s the good news: balance is a skill, and like any skill, it can improve...

Let’s start a conversation about your care wishes!

McLean will be at Eno Hall in the Old Court Room (lower level), 754 Hop Meadow Street in Simsbury, this coming Monday, January 12 at 1:00 p.m. to talk about “The Conversation Project,” a national initiative created to encourage people to talk to their families and health care professionals about their wishes for care if they become seriously ill.

This workshop is facilitated by Peggy Coburn, Administrator of McLean Home Care & Hospice, in partnership with the Town of Simsbury Senior and Social Services. An RSVP is recommended to khaberlin@simsbury-ct.gov.

As the holidays end and a new year begins, many people can finally take a moment to relax – and to think about planning for the future. If you’ve ever wondered what a life plan community is all about – and why so many seniors choose to call one home – we invite you to learn more at the McLean & Me Educational Series on January 20 at 4:00 p.m. at the Goodrich building: “Levels of Care in a Life Plan Community.” The leaders of our independent living, assisted living and memory care, and rehabilitation/skilled nursing will explain what’s involved in each level of care, and you’ll learn which level might be right for you or your loved one. The event is free but a sign up is required at www.McLeanCare.org/events. We hope you’ll join us!

Wishing you a Happy National Bird Day! The day is observed annually to raise awareness about bird conservation and welfare – something dear to our hearts here at McLean. Our founder, Senator George McLean, oversaw the passage of the Migratory Bird Treaty Act of 1918, landmark environmental legislation that’s still in effect today. The McLean Game Refuge honors the Senator’s conservation efforts by caring for the birds and other species that call the 4,400-acre McLean Game Refuge home. Learn more about the Senator and the McLean Game Refuge’s stewardship of the land at www.McLeanCare.org/game-refuge.
