The Campaign for McLean Game Refuge: You Did It!

The McLean Game Refuge is delighted to announce that thanks to the collective generosity of our donors, we have exceeded our fundraising target! The McLean Game Refuge has been open to the public since its creation in 1932. In order for it to remain a “force for nature” and to keep up with the rapidly changing environment, a new center for Game Refuge management and education is essential.

We are amazed and grateful at how quickly so many stepped up to support The Campaign for McLean Game Refuge, and how generously you gave. Your confidence in the work that Director Connor Hogan and the McLean Game Refuge team are doing to preserve and sustain the Game Refuge is inspiring.

The project, which includes a fully renovated and wheelchair-accessible headquarters, is currently proceeding through the Town of Granby and Farmington Valley Health District approval processes. We plan to begin renovations to the Game Refuge Headquarters in late spring 2026. We learned recently that the Headquarters needs a new septic system, an additional expense that will be added to the project budget. We are seeking donors to help us fund this unexpected expense and welcome new names to our list of donors!

We extend our deep appreciation for all that you give the Game Refuge; your partnership is critical to sustaining and advancing the Game Refuge mission. We’re honored to have been a “force for nature” for the past 90+ years – here’s to the next 90!

McLean celebrates and honors Black History Month!

Tiffanay Issac, a team member in our Life Enrichment Department, has created an amazing display honoring the scientific, artistic, humanitarian, and other accomplishments of Black people, both past and present. If you are visiting the McLean Health Center this month, we encourage you to stop by the display and take a moment to reflect on their achievements.

Have the weather conditions this winter made you think twice about your – or a loved one’s – driving skills? If you find yourself worrying about your own or your loved one's abilities behind the wheel, consider calling 860-658-3745 to ask about McLean’s Driving Assessment Program.

McLean’s Driving Assessment Program is designed to keep seniors safe on the road, not take them off of it. In partnership with AAA and open to the community, this three-hour assessment consists of a one-on-one 90-minute clinical evaluation from a trained Occupational Therapist who assesses visual, cognitive, perceptual, and physical abilities. It’s then followed by an on-the-road driving assessment with the Occupational Therapist and a AAA driving instructor in a specially adapted vehicle.

McLean is the only senior living community in the state to offer this valuable program. Visit McLeanCare.org/resources to learn more, or call us at 860-658-3745.
