If you've only ever walked the labyrinth in a group, Monday nights at St. Thomas are a great time to experience time alone on the labyrinth. People come and go between 6 and 8 p.m., and there are plenty of opportunities for solo walks.

Not sure how to approach the labyrinth alone? We have a deck of intention cards that can help you find a focus. Choose one that speaks to you or take a random card.

See you tonight!

Fall equinox labyrinth walk
6:30 p.m., Monday, Sept 22nd
St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 1200 Douglas St, Sioux City

The equinox is a great opportunity for reflecting on the in-between moments and spaces in your life, honoring the transitions and turning points, and celebrating the change in seasons.

It may also be a time for cooling the intensity of summer, both literally and figuratively, and letting the labyrinth be your safe space for processing the challenging time in which we live.

As always, there will be music, time for sharing, and art-making. All are welcome.

The patron saint of contemplative life would surely be glad for a labyrinth walk on the eve of her feast day! Come to St. Thomas Episcopal Church at 6 p.m. on Monday, July 21, to celebrate the life of Mary Magdalene.

Known in multiple Christian traditions as "an apostle to the apostles," Mary was a devoted disciple of Jesus and the first witness to the resurrection, representing a feminine strain of spirituality that was often ignored or repressed in the male-dominated Church. Even many people outside the Christian faith are fascinated by the legends that have endured about this extraordinary woman.

We will explore some of the traditions and stories of her life, walk the labyrinth, and make expressive art to honor her memory and ongoing inspiration. Please join us to learn, to create, and of course to walk together.

For those in the Sioux City area:

Experience a fresh new way to mark the days of Advent this year along with the St. Thomas labyrinth team. We are offering a free Advent packet filled with a variety of contemplative tools: a journal, art supplies, and a finger labyrinth. A daily prompt will be provided to explore through writing, artwork, or meditative use of the labyrinth, all on your own schedule at home.

Participants are also invited to gather 3 times during the Advent season:

Saturday, Dec. 7th, 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at St. Thomas -- an in-depth exploration of finger labyrinths of all sizes, shapes, and materials. Wood, paper, cloth, ceramic, and more -- discover what helps you best to "pray with your hands."

Thursday, Dec. 12th, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Zoom -- An online guided finger labyrinth meditation, with time for sharing and reflecting together.

Saturday, Dec. 21st, 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at St. Thomas -- Candlelit walk on the floor labyrinth as we enter the longest night of the year and the final few days of the Advent journey.

To sign up, drop a comment below and we will contact you to arrange delivery of the packet, the daily prompts, and the Zoom link.

Celebrate the feast day of Saint Hildegard of Bingen on the labyrinth at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Tuesday evening, Sept. 17, at 6:30 p.m.

Hildegard was a feisty German Benedictine abbess in the High Middle Ages who is still revered for her music, her poetry, her theological teaching and preaching, her art, and her knowledge of herbs and medicine. Her mystical experiences of God were an important part of her decision-making and leadership as well as her personal devotion.

Hildegard's music will accompany the labyrinth walk, and there will also be opportunities to learn about her life and art.
