Have you heard of cognitive behavioral therapy?

Let's talk CBT for a bit β€” one of the main modalities I use in helping my clients overcome irrational or negative thoughts. πŸ“

When we're feeling low, it's common for automatic negative thoughts to take over. While working with me, I may encourage you to challenge those thoughts or look for the evidence that they are true.

Avoiding those negative thoughts will not happen over night, but the more you practice CBT, the more you may be able to replace negative thoughts with an actual core belief.

For example, instead of saying "I always make mistakes," CBT helps us say ➑️ "Sometimes I make mistakes, and that's okay because I learn from them."

100% of women go through menopause at one point in their lifetime.

Whether you've yet to enter that stage in your life or you're well past it, the numbers on menopause shed light on what women can expect during menopause and shows that they are not alone in their journey. Check out these statistics from neuroscientist Dr. Lisa Mosconi! 🧠

Today, we have access to almost anything we want at the swipe of a phone screen β€” even receiving mental health therapy. 🀳🏻

When the pandemic hit in 2020, providers were left with very little turn around time to help make their practices safe for clients. Many of us turned to virtual therapy as a way to continue to see our patients despite the pandemic. Now, a lot of insurance companies still allow virtual therapy as an option, and it truly can compliment the typical services you might receive in office.

Research even shows virtual therapy can be just as effective as in-person sessions. Give it a try, and remember to ask your therapists about the safeguards they put in place for your anonymity. πŸ’»

Welcome to another Monday! To start the week on a positive note, today I encourage you to think of and name a few things that bring you happiness.

Here's my list I created this morning:
β€’ Sunshine β˜€οΈ
β€’ An awesome '80s tune
β€’ Cuddling with my dogs 🐢
β€’ Going for a walk
β€’ A good cup of coffee β˜•οΈ
β€’ A sermon that just hits the spot
β€’ Being in nature 🌾
β€’ A call from an old friend

Sharing some inspiration with you on this fine Friday πŸ’•

This quote is an old one but impactful nonetheless. Over and over in my life, these words have proved true. They remind us to be mindful of others' perspectives and to focus on appreciating the present.

Next time you find yourself in a dark moment, pause, take a deep breath, and sit with your feelings. What comes into focus for you may just be the purpose you have been looking for.

This fall, I had the pleasure of completing my certification in menopause coaching, which will allow me to assist other women on their midlife journey. πŸ™ŒπŸ»

So many aspects contribute to this time in a woman's life. I understand the struggles that come with this period, as I am currently living in it.

Throughout my own experience, I have realized how much information exists about how to feel happier and healthier during menopause. However, that information is not always readily available to women; so much of it wasn't shared with me.

I'm looking forward to sharing more about my certification soon. In the meantime, feel free to reach out if you have questions!

Who else is not excited about this snowy weather? πŸ™‹πŸ»β€β™€οΈβ˜ƒοΈ

Although it seems easier to just stay in bed on a dreary day like today, I encourage you to take advantage of the weather and get in some exercise or spend some time in nature. Your mind will thank you!

As we settle back into our routine (and a new year), I wanted to share a grounding strategy to try during moments of anxiety.

The 5️⃣-4️⃣-3️⃣-2️⃣-1️⃣ method:
β€” Five colored items.
β€” Four things you can touch.
β€” Three things you can hear.
β€” Two things you can smell.
β€” One thing you can taste.

I hope this technique is helpful for you. Try it out and let me know how it goes!

P.S. I’m trying something new with this video format, so I appreciate any feedback. Have a great week! 😌

Happy 2024! πŸŽ†

I hope you are looking forward to creating the next chapter of your life. (I know I am!) Although it is common today to reflect on the past year, I would caution you to not get hung up here. Focus on what you did accomplish in 2023 and re-frame the situations that did not work as you had wanted them to.

For example, instead of saying, "I blew my fitness and health goals this past year," acknowledge that you are continuing to focus on movement and nutrition. Reducing negative comments towards yourself can help you stay motivated to reach your goals.

I'd like to leave you with some suggestions from Andrew Huberman on efficient ways to increase your emotional health and motivation this year. Take three minutes each morning to practice gratitude, make daily plans, think of what may trigger your fears/resentments, decide how you might overcome them, and set goals. Try this for one week and see what happens to your motivation, goal setting, and emotional health.

Thank you all for a wonderful 2023. I look forward to seeing you in the new year! πŸ’™
