💧 Why Do Babies Spit Up?
It’s one of the most common questions we hear from parents — and it’s not always just “reflux.” 👇
👶 1. Immature Sphincter:
In young babies, the valve that keeps milk in the stomach isn’t fully developed yet. That’s why you may see frequent, painless spit-up — it’s mostly mechanical and usually improves by 6–9 months.
🔁 2. Reflux (GER/GERD):
When spit-up causes fussiness, arching, or poor sleep, the reflux may be irritating the esophagus. This can relate to pressure or tension around the diaphragm and upper spine, which affects how well the body coordinates swallowing and digestion.
🌾 3. Food Sensitivity:
If baby also has rashes, mucus in stool, or excessive gas, it might be an underlying sensitivity (often to dairy or soy). These babies tend to have more gut irritation and inflammation contributing to the spit-up.
✨ How Chiropractic May Help:
Gentle, specific pediatric adjustments support healthy communication between the brain, spine, and digestive system. By easing tension around the neck, upper back, and diaphragm, chiropractic care may help:
Improve nerve flow that controls digestion and sphincter tone
Reduce stress on the diaphragm and stomach region
Support better comfort during and after feeding
Many parents notice that as the spine and nervous system balance improve, their baby’s feeding, comfort, and digestion often do too.
