Thank you to Dakota News Now for having me on the New Year, New You segment! I’m so grateful for the chance to share about the work we do at Paula Lain Counseling and the ways we support teens and adults through anxiety, stress, perfectionism, and life’s everyday challenges.

We are honored to contribute a one-hour support counseling session to the New Year, New You Giveaway. Taking care of your mental health matters, and you don’t have to do it alone. 🤍

We’re skipping resolutions this year. Not because change doesn’t matter, but because real life does.

There’s a reason most New Year's promises don’t stick. Nearly 92% of resolutions are abandoned by the end of January, not because people are lazy, but because perfection is unsustainable.

So instead of aiming for big, shiny goals, our team is choosing something more realistic:
5 minutes a day, for two weeks.

No pressure.
No gold stars.
No doing it “right.”

Just small, intentional moments that support our energy, nervous systems, and well-being, done imperfectly.

✨ Check back with us in March for a follow-up post where we share how this actually went. Expect honesty, missed days, and a lot of grace.

F**k perfect.

Perfect keeps people quiet, exhausted, and stuck.
Grace lets people breathe, try again, and move forward.

You don’t have to do healing “right.”
You just have to do it honestly.

That’s where change actually happens.

It’s Random Acts of Kindness Week, and here’s the thing:
Kindness doesn’t have to be big, public, or perfectly executed to matter.

Sometimes it looks like:
💚 Checking in on someone instead of assuming they’re fine
💚 Letting yourself rest without guilt
💚 Offering patience when things feel tense
💚 Being a little softer — with others and with yourself

Small acts create safety.
Safety builds connection.
And connection changes things.

Caring for yourself isn’t selfish — it’s survival.

We’re holding space this month for voices that continue to shape how we understand healing, resilience, and self-worth. This quote from Audre Lorde reminds us that self-care isn’t indulgence, it’s preservation.

Honoring Black voices.
Honoring rest.
Honoring the truth that healing requires care.

February tends to focus on romantic love.
We’re widening the lens.

Love looks like self-respect.
It looks like a connection with yourself and with others.
It sounds like a kinder inner voice.

Love isn’t something you earn by doing more or being better.
It’s something you practice imperfectly, daily, and on your own terms.

Expecting or having a baby in 2026?

Here’s a reminder, it’s okay to set boundaries, say no, and protect your energy. You don’t have to do all the things or please everyone, because honestly, f*** that pressure.

Winter scaries hitting hard? Yeah… we get it. ❄️

January can feel long, heavy, and emotionally exhausting, short days, packed schedules, and not a lot of energy to go around. If you’re feeling more anxious, unmotivated, or overwhelmed than usual, you’re not doing anything wrong.

We believe support should feel warm, human, and judgment-free, especially during the toughest seasons. You don’t have to push through this alone.

You’re allowed to take it one day at a time.

Therapy doesn’t have to be scary or nerve-wracking.

At Paula Lain Counseling & Co., we believe counseling should feel human, comfortable, and supportive, not stiff, clinical, or intimidating. You don’t have to have the “right words,” a crisis, or everything figured out before you start.

Just come as you are. We’ll meet you there. ☺️
