Ever wonder if you're doing massage therapy "right"? Let me help you get the most out of your sessions.
After years of working with clients in Sioux Falls, I've learned that the best massage experiences happen when you know how to prepare and what to expect. Here's what I always share with my clients:
✨ DO communicate during your session. Your comfort matters, and I can't read your mind. If the pressure feels too light or too intense, or if you need me to spend more time on your shoulders versus your lower back, just let me know. Every session is tailored to what your body needs that day.
✨ DO hydrate before and after. Massage releases built-up toxins and metabolic waste from your muscles. Drinking water helps flush those out and reduces any post-massage soreness. I always recommend having a glass before you arrive and plenty after you leave.
✨ DO arrive a few minutes early. Rushing in stressed defeats the purpose. Give yourself time to settle, take a few deep breaths, and transition into relaxation mode. Those extra minutes make a real difference in how your body responds.
✨ DO book regular sessions. This is the big one. Massage isn't just for when you're in crisis or can barely move. It works best as maintenance. Regular sessions (every 2-4 weeks depending on your needs) prevent tension from building up in the first place, so you're not constantly playing catch-up with pain.
✨ DO listen to your body afterward. Some people feel energized, others feel like taking a nap. Both are normal. Pay attention to how different areas feel over the next day or two. That awareness helps us fine-tune your next session.
🚫 DON'T eat a heavy meal right before. Lying face-down on a full stomach is uncomfortable and can make you feel queasy. A light snack is fine, but save the big meal for after.
🚫 DON'T push through pain. There's a difference between "good hurt" (like when I'm working out a knot) and sharp, shooting pain. Therapeutic massage should never feel unbearable. If something doesn't feel right, speak up immediately.
🚫 DON'T wait until you're in crisis. I see this all the time. People wait until their neck is locked up or their back is screaming before they book. By then, it takes multiple sessions just to get back to baseline. Preventative care is so much more effective (and honestly, more affordable in the long run).
🚫 DON'T skip mentioning injuries or conditions. Even if it seems unrelated, I need to know about recent injuries, surgeries, chronic conditions, or areas you're having issues with. It helps me adjust techniques and avoid aggravating anything. Your safety is always my priority.
🚫 DON'T feel like you need to fill silence. This is your time. You don't need to entertain me or make small talk. If you want to chat, great. If you want to zone out completely, even better. I'm here to support whatever helps you relax.
Ready to experience the difference that personalized, therapeutic massage can make? I'd love to help you feel more comfortable and relaxed in your body.
