Loose parts question
“What can I do with these ?
It’s NOT about us, it’s not about OUR ideas and thinking ! It’s NOT what WE think children will do with this stuff !
Loose parts are those open ended resources with NO predetermined outcome or use! They can be mixed up, moved, combined and transported.
Let’s reframe our thinking and stop trying to fit loose parts into a predicted plan of what they are to be used for
Let’s face it, we cannot even predict what CHILDREN will do with this stuff ! Because our thinking couldn’t comprehend the innovation, imagination of the incredible mind of a child 🎉🙌🏼
Let GO of expectations, planned ideas, or even adding a sign that says “ Can you make a with these ….. 🙏🏼
When is a loose part NOT a loose part ?
When WE the adult have decided how these items should be used !🙈
WAIT * WATCH * WONDER
Struggling ?
Do children just dump the stuff?
Knock it cover? Hurl it ? Lob it across the room ? 😰
Oh my goodness that can be blooming frustrations can’t it ????
Maybe you’ve thought -
“ why can’t they play with them properly ?”
As much as it’s frustrating and we say children aren’t interested in the stuff
They ARE playing, learning and discovering ! Just because play isn’t neat orderly and tidy ! Just because their play doesn’t meet OUR expectations. Doesn’t mean this isn’t PLAY
Let’s reframe, rethink and reflect ! Let’s unlearn, relearn and empower ourselves to explore the concept of schematic learning. Schemas ? A child’s urges and repeated patterns in behaviour !
