💙 Yesterday marked the one year anniversary of our first Family-Friendly Disability Resource Expo. A year ago, we gathered 60 local resources under one roof, along with activities, entertainment, and a free lunch as our love letter to the disability community of Sioux Falls. We were so honored to have 400 attendees spend their Saturday with us, on top of all the vendors and volunteers who donated their time.

💛 We decided to give ourselves time to grow our Fun & Friends programming and focus on our mission before jumping into planning the next Expo. Now that a year has passed, and we've experienced so much growth, we are excited to announce details for the bigger & better Second Family-Friendly Disability Resource Expo!

📍 Sioux Falls Convention Center
👥 We're bringing 60+ resources directly to families
💥 Entertainment and food will be provided
💲 This event will be FREE for all to attend and enjoy!

🏊🏻‍♀️ Last week our birth to five group, 3•2•1 Fun!, got to enjoy an adaptive swim session at SafeSplash Swim School - Sioux Falls! Thank you for hosting our group, they had so much fun playing in the water!

Next month, our school aged group, Fun & Friends Jr., will have their chance to check it out too. 🍿 Our first sensory friendly showing was such a success that next time we might need TWO theatres 😱

💙 Thank you so much to everyone who came out and spent the morning with us & Mario! We weren't sure what to expect, but we're happily walking away from the full theatre with full hearts!

⭐ Special recognition to Encompass Mental Health, LLC for elevating the whole experience by providing sensory regulation tools for attendees to utilize during the showing--they were so helpful!

🎥 We'd love to offer another sensory friendly showing later this year, perhaps during schools' Winter Break. We'd love any feedback from this event to continue to improve our offerings. Feel free to message or email us 😁

🚨 SEEKING: fun, creative, and organized individual who loves planning events for kids!

💙 At the beginning of 2026, we rebranded our monthly open gym meetups, making it our fourth program under the name Fun for All: Open Gym. Along with some other changes, we have seen a wonderful growth in attendance. We would love to see that program continue to grow under the management of its own coordinator!

⭐ This volunteer position requires the ability to plan a theme, activities, and crafts for one event a month. You will need to be comfortable managing a budget (as you will be purchasing supplies and equipment for each event) and attending occasional in person board meetings.

🎨 If you are creative, love working with kids and families, and are well organized, this would be the perfect for for you! Applicants for this position do NOT need to be parent, or family member of a child with a disability.

🗓️ All Fun for All: Open Gym dates have been scheduled at the Special Olympics Gym for the entirety of 2026—we just need you to bring them to life!

🎟️ Our first ever sensory friendly private movie showing is coming up THIS SATURDAY!

🍿 Join us on Saturday, April 18th to see The Mario Galaxy Movie at Century EAST. Doors open at 9:30am and the movie begins promptly at 10am WITHOUT PREVIEWS. All the details can be found on the Facebook event and in this video. Please reach out with any questions!

A huge thank you goes out to Encompass Mental Health, LLC for partnering with us on this event by providing sensory regulation tools to our guests to utilize during the showing.

We are sad to be missing the Spirit of Volunteerism brunch this morning, but wanted to take a moment to shine the spotlight on our own Abby Kayser who is being recognized as an Up & Coming Volunteer Honoree!

Abby has done an AMAZING job as our 3•2•1 Fun Program Coordinator. In that role, she dedicates her time as a volunteer to thoughtfully plan and host monthly events for our youngest families. Abby has gone above and beyond with her care, intentionality, and leadership of that program while still managing to support other programs by volunteering for their events, as well as volunteering outside of our organization.

Thank you Helpline Center for recognizing Abby and all the other honorees and volunteers that make Sioux Falls a better place!

The Fun for All: April Open Gym 🌷 is coming up bright and early THIS Saturday morning at the Special Olympics South Dakota gym! Join us for a FREE morning of indoor play, Spring themed activities, and meet our special guest Jess Herbert with Possibilities, who will be hosting a fun activity as well! You won't want to miss the fun:

🏀 Basketball
🌻 Plant your own sunflower seed to take home
🪏 Garden sensory table
🪱 Make your own "dirt cup" snack
🖍️ Jumbo coloring sheet
🌷 Flower vase craft
⭐ Indoor play

Our Fun for All program is for families who have a child between the ages of 0-12 with a disability, rare disease, genetic condition, or who is on the spectrum. These events are always FREE, no registration is required, and refreshments are provided. Come check it out!

🚨 UPDATE: We are 63% of the way to our Adaptive Trike Campaign goal! We have purchased our first THREE adaptive trikes, and are over halfway to purchasing our 4th!

❤️ Funds from this campaign will be used to purchase adaptive tricycles that will allow children with physical disabilities to fully participate in our Special Olympics South Dakota Young Athletes sessions, for use in our monthly open gyms, and as part of a check-out system to build skills in a home setting.

🧡 Being able to loan out these adaptive trikes for home use is a huge driving factor in acquiring them, as they are beyond the means for most families to acquire individually.

💛 These trikes will expand the number of children who can safely and confidently participate in our activities. We plan to have this equipment purchased and available for use in time for the upcoming Special Olympics Young Athletes session beginning July 7, 2026.
