We're Still Buzzing.

Saturday was absolutely electric. I stopped by The Good Stuff-Brewing Joy Daily coffee truck to pay our tab. They made sure to comment on how our customers couldn't stop talking about how excited they were about us. The energy, the excitement, the lines out the door, the nonstop online orders - we honestly didn't know what hit us. In the best way possible.

We wanted to share some stats about what went down:

We served 636 customers on Saturday. 405 of you shopped online, and the rest of you packed our little shop wall to wall. It was chaos. It was beautiful. It was everything we hoped it would be.

Each goodie bag was valued at just over $35. That means over $22,000 worth of free products we got to give back to you. Watching people's faces light up when they saw what was inside? That never gets old.

Saturday broke every sales goal we've ever set. The day landed 32% higher than last year's Customer Appreciation sale. We didn't think this kind of number was possible to do in one day. This year? You absolutely crushed it.

Our new deodorant sold out. Over 250 units gone. We thought we were prepared, but we're in the makery right now making more. Don't worry, it's still available online if you missed out or need more.

We gave away over $400 in free coffee, served over 192 cookies (who's counting?), and lost track of how many smiles, laughs, and thank-yous we heard throughout the day.

But here's the thing:

The numbers are fun. The records are exciting. But what made Saturday special wasn't the sales or the stats. It was you. The regulars who've been with us from the beginning. The new faces who finally stopped in. The friends you brought. The kids running around. The conversations at the counter. The "I've been wanting to try this" moments. The "this is exactly what I needed" relief.

That's what we'll remember.

Thank you.

For showing up. For supporting us. For believing in what we're building here. For being the kind of community that makes days like Saturday possible.

We're already planning our Anniversary Party this fall. And if Saturday was any indication? We're going to need a bigger space. 😉

The other day we shared about our inventory management upgrade. One piece of that puzzle is how it's helping us build a making schedule. We're not fully there, but it's coming along. With more data, we can plan and strategize our making. The official term we’ve learned from reading business books is "forecasting."

It's an odd thing for me to think about our little store as a place that needs to forecast ahead. But here we are. The last handful of years we've experienced such amazing growth. It's challenged us in all the good ways possible. Our space is feeling extra cramped, but extra full of love. We've hired staff to help (we couldn't do it without you ladies!). We've implemented systems (so many more to come). We've remodeled our store (again) just in the last year to make our space more efficient for making.

One of my favorite things to do is formulation of new products. Constantly tweaking existing products to make them better (hello, deodorant. I'm looking at you!). But this week, it's all about production. We're gearing up for our first huge sale of the year: Customer Appreciation.

It's the day where we get to honor you. Our customers. The ones who show up on cold and windy days. The ones who order online on a Sunday night when we're closed. The people who stopped in randomly and have become ones we've started to affectionately call "our favorites." It's the reason we show up every day. To serve you. And it's an honor.

It's a busy time preparing all the products. The making, the blending, the whipping, the pouring, the piping... It's all done with love and intention. Because it's more than just a body butter - it's a skin healer. It's more than an herbal blend elixir - it's a supplement that makes life better. It's small batch because we care about each batch. That's what you get when you buy from us. And we want to say thanks the only way we know how.

We prepared over 700 goodie bags for you. Every order over $30 gets one. We're giving out free coffee to the first 50 customers from The Good Stuff | Brewing Joy Daily coffee truck. We'll have cookies to grab at the checkout and everything - we mean EVERYTHING - in the store is 20% off.

We can't wait to see you. And we hope you bring a friend.

Earlier this year, we shared a post about goals. One of those goals was implementing a new inventory management system that actually worked. We needed something streamlined, effective, and accurate across all our sales channels.

When we first opened, we didn't need complicated systems. We had maybe 20 products. Now? Nearly 300 products and over 800 unique SKUs across multiple sales channels. What used to fit on a single shelf now fills an entire store.

The past couple years, during big sales, we'd writhe in the aftermath of oversold products. Shipping would turn into a week-long scramble. And to be honest, it was dreadful for the entire team.

At the heart of it was a lack of proper inventory management. We implemented a new system right after the new year, and it's been a game changer. We've never had a more accurate look at what's on our shelves at any given time.

It's the reason you can go to our website, order a product, and know we can pull it and get it shipped (or ready for pickup) right away.

As we approach our Customer Appreciation Party next week, I wanted to highlight what our team has been doing behind the scenes to make sure the shelves stay stocked and our online inventory matches reality.

This is our first big sale of the year, and we like to go all out. Goodie bags, coffee truck, balloons - it's a party, and we hope you can come celebrate with us! It's a day geared around what makes us successful: you. This is our chance to say thanks.

If you ever see something out of stock online, rest assured - we got an email the night before letting us know, and we're working hard to get it back on the shelves.

Hope to see you next weekend!

Yes, we really said it. Free Coffee!

Our Customer Appreciation Party is about you - our customers. It's our way of saying thanks for all you do for us. And one of the ways we're doing that? Handing out 50 Free Drink cards to the first 50 people on Saturday morning.

We're hosting The Good Stuff-Brewing Joy Coffee Truck starting at 9 am (the shop opens at 10 am). Get there early and snag a Free Drink card while they last. Don't sleep in!

I created a magnesium cream nearly 8 years ago for my husband, who was training for a marathon. After his long runs, he'd complain about how tired and sore his legs were. I thought about it for a minute and said, "I can use herbs to make something to help!"

He's not a lotion guy AT ALL, but he rubbed it on his legs anyway. A few hours later, he said, "We're calling this Miracle Muscles and selling this in your store!"

He was hooked.

It quickly became our top-selling product month after month, year after year. We have so many testimonials on Miracle Muscles we could fill a book. It includes arnica and dandelion oil, which help reduce inflammation, plus topical magnesium - a powerhouse blend that targets achy muscles and helps you get relief quickly.

Miracle Muscles works for sore muscles from workouts, construction, stress, arthritis, and more. If you've tried it, you know how effective it is.

But here's the thing: sometimes you need more than a spot treatment.

That's where Recover Bath Salts come in.

Recover gives you a full-body reset. After a hard workout, a long week, or when everything just aches, you need to soak. Let the magnesium absorb. Let the eucalyptus and arnica do their thing. Give your body 20 minutes to actually recover.

Not a bath person? Drop a bit into a small container and soak your feet. It'll do wonders for the whole body, and your feet will love you. We promise.

Miracle Muscles and Recover Bath Salts aren't the same thing. They're complementary. One's for quick, targeted relief. The other is for deep recovery.

If you're dealing with chronic soreness, stress-related tension, or you just work your body hard, using both makes a difference.

Need even more pain relief options? Check out our Pain Away tincture for internal support that works from the inside out.

We're not saying you need all three. We're just saying if sore muscles are part of your everyday life, it helps to have options that actually work.

I put together a Pain Relief link on our website to make it easier to find what you need.

Have you tried our Miracle Muscles or any other pain-relieving products we offer? What's been your experience? Let us know in the comments!

Most people know Juniper Apothecary for our herbal tinctures, healing salves, exceptional skin and body care products. And it’s because they work. We’ve strived to make products that make a difference in how people live. That’s been our mission from the start.

But over the years, we’ve also felt a strong pull to expand into more products. The products we use every day. The ones that live under the kitchen sink that are loaded with ingredients that make us uncomfortable. Ingredients that affect our lives, health, and well-being.

Here is a short list of impactful products you probably didn’t know we make (but you probably need).

Hand Soap
We made a product that smells great, works great, and is designed to sit next to your sink and look great. It matters what soap you clean with - your hands touch everything. It matters how it looks next to your sink - you see it 20 times a day. Clean ingredients. Great labels. A ‘must-have’ replacement for whatever you’re using now.

Laundry Detergent
Yep. This has quietly become a contender in our top 10 product sales. The feedback on this one has been incredible. Tough on stains, gentle on sensitive skin, and doesn’t leave your clothes smelling like a chemical factory (or over-fragrant hormone disruptors).

Stain Stick
We have kids. Many of our customers have kids. And if there's one universal truth about kids, it's that they stain things. Grass. Coffee (because when you sit down to enjoy a cup they roll around next to you and… you get the idea). Chocolate. Spaghetti. You name it, this stain stick handles it.

Dishwasher Powder
My husband used to ask, “Who cares about the dishwashing soap? Doesn’t it just rinse off?” Then he learned just how much of that mystery blue gel packet doesn’t always dissolve and the havoc that it can wreak on our bodies. On our kids’ bodies. Our dishwashing powder is plant-based, effective, and gets your dishes clean. *Disclaimer: still not a good idea for kids to eat it, tho.* (We had to say that because of the Tide Pod thing…)

Car Diffuser
Less of an everyday household product and more like a product that freshens a space we all typically dread spending time in: the car. It seems we can never dig up every last French fry or sucker out of the seats. I remember when we bought this car and said the kids would never eat in it. It lasted a week. But our car diffusers give your car a fresh breath of naturally scented air. They look great hanging from the rear view mirror, too. Enjoy it. We do!

We’re more than just the herb shop on the corner. We’re a “replace the stuff under the sink and around the house” kind of place. We’re here to walk you through making the switch from products that don’t work and make you nervous to use around your kids.

If you’ve been using natural alternative products from somewhere else. That’s great. We’d love it if you’d give ours a try. They’re tested by our family and proven by amazing customer feedback. They’re made with intention right here in Sioux Falls. By a family that cares about your family and with ingredients you can recognize.

I included a link in the comments to a full list of household products we make.

We just wrapped up a week of posts about what herbal care is teaching our kids.

But if I'm being honest, this series wasn't really about herbs at all. It was about confidence. Trust. Discernment. Empowerment.

It was about teaching kids to listen to their bodies before rushing to fix them. To understand that not every uncomfortable feeling is an emergency - sometimes it's just a signal that needs attention.

It was about teaching them that support doesn't have to be harsh to be effective. That gentleness isn't weakness. That their bodies aren't enemies to control or override - they're systems to understand and work with.

We talked about language. Language that teaches how herbal care has given my kids words for what they're experiencing. "I feel anxious." "My throat feels scratchy." Not vague panic, just honest awareness. And that awareness alone brings relief.

We talked about restraint. Things like why less is often more, why we focus on single herbs instead of complex blends, why learning to use the smallest effective amount teaches kids something valuable about intentionality.

We talked about stewardship. Like where plants come from, how long they take to grow, why we don't waste what we've been given. Because herbal care isn't about consumption. It's about relationship.

And we talked about balance. Why we still use doctors, why herbs aren't replacements for modern medicine, why teaching kids to discern when support is enough and when more is needed is one of the most responsible things we can do.

All of it built toward one thing: kids who don't panic when something feels off.

Kids who check in with their bodies. Who ask questions. Who participate in their own care without fear or dependence.

That's what this week was about. Not making your kids into mini-herbalists. Just giving them tools to trust themselves while also knowing their limits.

If you missed any of the posts this week, go back and read through the series. And if this resonated with you, share it with someone who might benefit.

Thanks for following along. This is what we're building. Not just in our home, but hopefully in yours too.

Earlier this year, my son woke up with a sore throat. Just a handful of years ago, that would have meant panic. "Is it strep? Do I need to stay home? What if it gets worse?"

Instead of us both freaking out, he walked into the kitchen, told me his throat felt scratchy, and calmly asked if we had some marshmallow root tincture. No drama. No spiral. Just awareness and action.

That shift didn't happen overnight. It happened because of everything we've been talking about this week.

This is what the last week has been building toward.

All the lessons we've covered: listening before fixing, understanding support vs. suppression, using less rather than more, naming what they feel, choosing gentleness, respecting the plants, and knowing when to use doctors. All of it has built something deeper than just knowing which herb does what.

It's built confidence.

My kids don't panic when something feels off anymore. They check in. They ask questions. And they participate in their care.

When my son feels anxious before a ninja competition, he doesn't shut down or try to push through it. He recognizes it. He asks for catnip. He understands that his body is responding to stress, and that's normal. There is anything wrong with him. He's not broken. And there are gentle ways to support himself through it.

That's empowerment.

Not because they never feel uncomfortable. Not because herbs fix everything instantly. But because they know how to observe, assess, and respond with intention instead of panic.

They trust their bodies, and they trust the process. They're learning to trust that most things their bodies do aren't emergencies; they're signals. And signals can be listened to, not just overridden.

This confidence didn't come from ignoring symptoms or pretending everything is fine.

It came from learning how to listen. How to support. How to respond thoughtfully instead of reactively.

It came from practicing these skills over and over. All the small things, everyday discomforts, minor complaints add up so that when something bigger does happen, they have a foundation to stand on.

They know the difference between "this needs attention" and "this needs emergency care." They know when to reach for gentle support and when to ask for help.

They know their bodies aren't betraying them every time something feels uncomfortable. And that may be the greatest gift herbal care has given our family.

Not a cabinet full of tinctures. Not perfect health. Not some idealized version of wellness. Just kids who feel empowered in their own bodies. Who can participate in their own care without fear or dependence. Who are learning to trust themselves while also knowing their limits.

That's what this week has been about. That's what growing kids herbal-aware really means.

This is the final post in our week-long series: Growing Kids Herbal Aware. Tomorrow we'll share a summary of everything we've covered this week - check back to review the full series.

03/14/2026

After a week of talking about herbs, I want to be really clear about something: herbs are great. But they're not replacements for doctors, and we've never treated them that way.

Herbal care doesn't replace modern medicine in our home: it lives alongside it.

My kids know that sometimes rest is enough. Herbs are supportive, but sometimes we need extra help from doctors, tests, or intervention.

That balance is part of responsible care. There's no fear here, just discernment.

We've spent this week talking about what herbal care has taught our kids. The awareness, the language, the gentleness, the stewardship. All of that is true, and all of that matters.

But here's what else is true: herbs aren't an end-all fix. And they're not meant to replace modern healthcare.

When my daughter broke her collarbone, we didn't reach for arnica and call it good. We went to the doctor. She got an X-ray. He got a sling.

There is a time and place for medical intervention, and it's important we recognize that.

Herbal care has given my kids tools. But it hasn't made them, or me, medical experts.

We use herbs when they're appropriate. When the body needs gentle support and time to do what it knows how to do. When we're dealing with everyday discomforts, minor complaints, or long-term wellness.

But we also know when to step back and say, "This is beyond what we can handle at home."

That's not weakness. That's wisdom.

This is what responsible herbal care looks like.

It's not about rejecting everything modern medicine offers out of fear or ideology. It's not about making herbs into something they're not.

It's about knowing when support is enough, and when more is needed.

It's about asking questions. Doing research. Trusting yourself and your body while also recognizing your limits.

It's about teaching our kids that using herbs doesn't mean we distrust doctors. It means we have more tools in the toolbox, and we use the right tool for the job.

Sometimes that's chamomile tea and a good night's sleep. Sometimes it's an appointment with a doctor and maybe a blood test to verify everything is okay.

Both have their place. And teaching my kids to discern the difference, without fear, without rigidity, just with honest awareness, is one of the most important things I can do.

Balance. Discernment. Responsibility. That's what we're teaching.

Tomorrow we'll wrap up this series with one final lesson: what happens when kids learn to participate in their own care instead of panicking. Check back for the final post in our week-long series: Growing Kids Herbal Aware.

03/13/2026

My daughter asked me the other day how long it takes for echinacea to grow before we can use it. The answer surprised her: years. And that one question opened up a conversation I didn't expect.

We talked about how echinacea roots need at least two or three years, sometimes longer, before they're mature enough to harvest. How farmers and herbalists wait patiently, tending the plants, watching them grow, knowing they won't see a return on that work for years.

We talked about how that's different from walking into a store and grabbing a bottle of something synthetically made off the shelf without thinking about where it came from.

And we talked about why that matters.

Herbal care isn't about consumption; it's about relationship. And my kids are learning gratitude, restraint, and respect alongside every remedy.

When we use echinacea now, they think about those years of growth. They think about the people who cultivated it. They understand it's not unlimited, and that changes how they use it.

We teach them not to waste. We try to make sure they know not to take more than they need just because it's available.

When my daughter reaches for catnip, she doesn't dump half the bottle into her water. She uses what he needs. And when it runs out, we talk about how long it takes not only to let the herb extract into the tincture, but the harvest it took to get it here.

This teaches stewardship, not entitlement.

It teaches them that the natural world isn't just here for us to consume without thought. That resources take time to grow, and people work hard to cultivate and prepare them well.

We believe God designed plants with purpose. That creation is ordered and intentional, and that plants can support the body in ways that honor how we're made.

But we also teach our kids that just because something is natural doesn't mean we use it carelessly.

This lesson applies to so much more than herbs.

It applies to food. To how we treat the land. To how we use what we've been given without assuming there's always more where that came from.

Herbal care has given my kids a framework for thinking about relationship instead of just consumption. It's something that as I'm teaching them, I'm reminding myself of these values. Something I think more of the world needs reminding of, too.

We're on the final few days of our week-long series: Growing Kids Herbal Aware. Go back and check out our other posts and keep following along for more on how we're teaching our kids to feel confident in their own care.
