Congratulations Kyle Siemers MD, PhD student in the Baack Lab who was selected to present her work at the 13th World Congress of DOHaD in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Yesterday, she presented a fabulous talk entitled “Combined high lipid and glucose exposure impairs trophoblast mitochondria- mediated fatty acid uptake” which demonstrates mechanisms involved in deficiency of beneficial long chain, unsaturated fatty acids in infants born to diabetic and obese mothers. Congratulations Kyle! So proud of you.

Congratulations to Abby Klein and the Baack Lab on their recent publication in Biomedicines entitled “The Transgenerational Impact of High-fat Diet and Diabetic Pregnancy on Embryonic Transcriptomics and Mitochobdrial Health”. The paper shows lasting consequences for preimplantation embryos for three generations! Next, we hope to reveal interventions that stop the vicious generational cycle of obesity and cardiometabolic disease. Congratulations authors: Abigail Klein, Benjamin Derenge, Malini Mukherjee, Srikrishna Reddy, Tricia Larsen, Prathapan Ayyappan. Ty Gandy, Kyle Siemers, Mike Kareta and Michelle Baack.
