Doorway to Nature LLC in Door County, WI Connecting you with nature, to refresh your mind, body, and soul with a slow, guided walk. WELCOME!

My name is Jane Burress, owner of Doorway to Nature LLC in beautiful Door County, WI. After working as a Youth and Family Minister for 20 years, I noticed an alarming increase in anxiety and depression among youth and children. With a background in nursing and a desire to promote mental wellness, my journey to Nature and Forest Therapy Certification as a guide, began. I completed my training in December of 2019 and have since been working with middle school youth. Connecting to nature has many benefits besides mental wellness, and I plan to share those benefits in future posts. My hope is that by connecting people with nature, they will understand how we are interrelated and want to protect our environment. Throughout my training, I led private walks and hope to begin offering public walks in the near future. Meanwhile, I've decided to use this page to share information about forest bathing, it's benefits, what a walk is and isn't, and photos of this beautiful place I call home. I feel fortunate to have grown up in Door County, with many of my favorite memories (including my wedding day), being outdoors. My husband and I raised three boys (one who currently lives in Door County with his wife and three daughters). It brings a smile to my face when I see my children and grandchildren enjoying and appreciating nature. I’ve always felt that I benefited physically, emotionally, and spiritually when out in nature and now there is research to prove the benefits. I hope this page encourages you to get outside and enjoy all that nature provides.

These are the responses to "Let's Create" made by my Björklunden seminar class on their 4th day. Each person shared the meaning behind their creation and all were symbolic of a memory, a place, a feeling, etc. After photos were taken, their creations were taken apart to leave no trace.

Grateful for a week of connecting with nature and this great group of people at Björklunden. Led the seminar "Be Present in Nature and Discover What Nature has to Present You." Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan and California were represented. A good reminder to connect with people beyond our community and hear their stories.

What a beautiful day for guiding a walk at Björklunden! I always enjoy meeting people and listening to what they notice when they are taking in nature with all of their senses. This group represented six different states: Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois, Indiana, Nebraska, and Washington. Thanks to all of you for a great afternoon!

For me, family time is a blessing and something I am always grateful for. Yesterday I had the pleasure of guiding this family who came from different areas of the country to share time together in Door County. Nature immersion/Forest bathing is a great way to slow down, be present, and connect with nature and each other.
