Most all of us are carrying many things at once.

Fortune and misfortune. Good luck and bad luck. Grief and gratitude. Fear and courage.

In a society and an economy that often demands us to grind, taking time to process and metabolize the hard stuff can feel inconvenient and risky.

Many of us also have professions where consistency matters more than authenticity, and our ability to put aside our own troubles in order to stay present for others is our bread and butter.

Adoptive compartmentalization is a mindful and gentle shelving of certain aspects of our emotional experience in order to remain more grounded and effective, but it does so with the intention to revisit.

Maladaptive compartmentalization is often a rigid retreat of our emotional experience often by numbing, running, or denying the shadows of our lives. Unrelenting, this can often lead to burn out, disconnect, and detachment.

It’s not about whether you compartmentalize—it’s about what you do next. Awareness and follow-through make the difference.

Problems usually have solutions. There is usually “a fix”.
Situations often do not have solutions. There is rarely “a fix”.

When you are cold outside in bad weather, this is a problem that likely has a solution, but the weather itself is a situation.

Sometimes we act like problems that may have simple solutions are situations and brush aside or minimize meaningful action steps that may make a big difference. Anxieties, insecurities, and fear of change are often obstacles.

Sometimes we act like situations are problems, and we are desperate to find solutions when the only action step is acceptance. This can be especially difficult with grief and rejection.

Either way we can expend a lot of energy postponing action steps or searching for action steps that may not be there.

The work is in discernment.✅

The link between our detox pathways supported by our liver and our mental health are a big deal. 📣🥦🩺🧠

The liver is our body’s primary detox organ. Every day, it processes hormones, medications, alcohol, environmental toxins, and metabolic waste. When it’s overwhelmed or sluggish, those compounds don’t just disappear—they circulate.

And that matters for your brain…🧐

• Hormone balance → The liver helps break down estrogen and other hormones. When this process is impaired, hormone imbalances can contribute to anxiety, irritability, and mood swings.

• Inflammation → A stressed liver can contribute to systemic inflammation, which is increasingly linked to depression and brain fog.

• Blood sugar regulation → The liver plays a key role in stabilizing blood sugar. Dysregulation can lead to energy crashes, irritability, and worsened anxiety.

• Toxin clearance → When detox pathways are sluggish, toxins may accumulate and affect neurotransmitter function, impacting mood, focus, and clarity.

• Gut-liver-brain axis → The liver works closely with the gut. Disruption in this system can influence everything from serotonin production to stress response.

So what supports both liver and mental health?

• Prioritize whole, unprocessed foods
• Support stable blood sugar (protein, fiber, healthy fats)
• Limit alcohol and ultra-processed sugar
• Stay hydrated
• Move your body regularly
• Get quality sleep
• Reduce toxin exposure where possible

Support the liver, support the brain.
